My kittens had a URI. When is it safe to get them vaccinated?

A lot of the viruses that cause resp infections will stay in the system and recur intermittently. I would wait until the kitten is cleared up again as the immune system is currently preoccupied and wont be able to process the vaccine optimally.

Yes this should be fine as long as she is feeling better. Also, you may consider putting her on a daily immune boosting vitamin like viralys or vetriscience lysine treats. It doesn’t treat the virus but it may help to boost her immune system. I hope this helps!

As long as Maki is improving and no longer sick, she can receive vaccinations. However, she needs to be around 6-8 weeks old to receive her first vaccinations. If you are unsure of her age and think she is around 2 months then I would wait 2-3 weeks before commencing vaccines. I would keep the appointment and have your veterinarian proceed with an examination and determine if it would be safe to proceed with the procedure or not. Your cat should not be infectious at this point although the new kitten may have been exposed to another strain of upper respiratory infection so either cat could develop a mild respiratory infection again. This is like kids going to school and being exposed to viruses from the other kids. Regardless of when you adopt this could happen so go ahead and adopt the new kitten. Vaccine protocols are all dependent upon the age they start. The last set needs to be given after 4 months of age. So if she received a set previously and a booster after 4 months, she is considered up to date and protected. If she was started at 9 weeks, then they will be repeated every 4 weeks until 4 months of age, therefore getting more sets

Congratulations! What a beautiful kitten! Most vets start a vaccine series between 6-8 weeks of age, and will also deworm or check stool samples at the first visit. Following that, they typically need a visit/booster every 3-5 weeks until they are a few months old. The exact vaccines schedule will be individualized by your vet. They may also recommend parasite prevention or routine dewormers. Other things you can do at home include feeding a high quality kitten food, checking their urine and stool output and getting them used to being handled. Becoming well socialized is very important! Make sure they have plenty of vertical space like a cat tree, handle him gently and frequently - get him used to having his nail trims, etc. Don't let him bite you:) It looks like you are off to a great start!
