Why is my 2-day-old kitten's tongue stuck to its bottom lip?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 1lb

My two-day-old kitten, Acorn’s tongue seems so be stuck to its bottom lip. From what I can tell, it may be stuck, but occasionally, it licks its lips with the tongue that seemed stuck. When Acorn cries, the tongue stays in the same place, until the occasional lick.

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It does sound unusual. I suspect Acorn was born with neurological problems or muscle atrophy and now he is not able to use the tongue properly. If he is not able to latch on the nipple and feed because of the problems with the tongue, you may have to start bottle feed him. It will be really a good idea if the kitten is examined by a vet to find out what is exactly stopping Acorn from moving the tongue.
