My 12-week-old kitten is tiny but eats well. Should I be worried?

Some cats can have a smaller frame than an average size cat and still be completely healthy. Other causes of being smaller than other cats could include congenital malformations, decreased nutrition, intestinal parasites, or other medical illness. Without a medical examination, we won't be able to tell you whether you should be worried or not. When you get the availability, I would have her looked at by a vet.

Noushmc might just be a small cat! If she eats a correct portion of food for her weight and age and if she continues to grow, even if slowly, if her appetite is good, the urination and defecation is normal and she is happy and playful, I wouldn't be worried at the moment. Lack of growth and failure to gain weight in a kitten can be due to a number of medical causes- viral or bacterial infections and parasitic infections could be potential causes among others. I would recommend having the kitten seen by a veterinarian for an exam and assessment. You may wish to bring a fresh fecal sample to the vet appointment in case your vet wants to test the kitten's stool. Luna looks fine from the photos. I suggest you get a small scale and weigh her twice a week. As long as she is gaining weight I would not be worried about how much she is eating. It is not likely that a kitten would starve herself. At 2 months old she should be ready for her first vaccines. If you have not done that already, you should get her to your vet for her vaccines and an exam. That way your vet can check her over thoroughly (including her mouth) to see if there is anything to be concerned about. I cannot really tell much from a couple photos other than the fact that is adorable! Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Be sure that Okoye is eating a good quality kitten food like Purina, Hill's or Royal Canin. She should be dewormed a few times. Around 7-8 weeks she should see the Vet for the first time and be feline leukemia and FIV tested, dewormed and given her first vaccination. At less than 8 weeks old she should only weigh around 2 lbs. Cats feel warmer than us. Theire body temperature is normally 100-102. If she is eating and active I wouldn't worry that she feels warm. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At almost 9 weeks old feeding her that small of an amount that frequently is not needed. I think feeding her 3 times a day until 4 months old is fine then after that twice daily. At this age she should have started vaccines and had her stool checked for parasites. A big belly can occur after eating (but goes down), from intestinal parasites and if there is abnormal fluid in the belly (from FIP). If Noushmc hasn't been to the Vet she should be seen to start her routine care. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!
