Is my 3-week-old kitten throwing up milk because I overfed him?

I am not sure if you are referring to vomiting, regurgitation or abdominal discomfort after eating? Three week old kittens are definitely at risk of intestinal parasites and should receive kitten deworming dosed accurately to their weight

It certainly sounds as though Zaytoune isn't feeling well! At 3.5 weeks old, we need to be sure kittens are eating every few hours to keep their blood glucose (sugar) levels adequate. If blood glucose becomes too low, animals can become lethargic and even begin to seizure in severe cases. Possible causes of vomiting could include gastrointestinal upset from his medication, diet change, a virus, etc. Since he is so young and not keeping milk or food down, I would recommend taking him to an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible to assure that his blood glucose levels are appropriate.

Hello. At 4 weeks of age, you should be weaning these kittens onto a good kitten food. 50 ml of milk 3 times a day may just be too much for them, especially if the kittens are less than 1 pound. The other very big cause of diarrhea in kittens is intestinal parasites. I would bring a sample of the stool to your veterinarian & have it examined microscopically. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Make sure what you are feeding the kitten is an appropriate kitten milk replacer. Kittens this young are not able to regulate their temperatures well, so make sure you have her on a heating pad set on low with a towel on top. There should be an area for the kitten to move off if it gets too warm. Make sure you are not overfeeding the kitten. A kitten needs 2 tablespoons ( 30 mls ) per 4 ounces ( 115 grams ) of body weight daily. Divide the daily amount into equal portions for each feeding & fed every 3-4 hours until bedtime. Stimulate the genital area after each meal, but do not be concerned if she does not have a BM each time. You can try feeding her a congee, which is often tolerated by the sickest kittens. Take 1-2 cups chicken broth ( low or no salt added ), add 1/4 cup white rice & a tiny sliver of fresh ginger. Boil for 2 hours. While cooling, add 1 Tbsp good quality protein powder - egg or casein, not soy. Stir together very well. The mix should be a bit thick. Drip into kittens mouth 1/2 - 1 ml at a time. Hopefully she will start to turn around. Just keep at it. Good luck.

It sounds like they may be eating too much too fast. Try feeding them the soft canned food (no dry food) in small portions more often so that they do not overload. You may have to feed them the solid food 4 times a day, in addition to maybe 2 additional times of the KMR, but you can phase out the baby cat slowly.

Hi there, sorry to hear about poor little Kunnu. Loose stools (pasty consistency) are normal for young puppies. Over feeding as well as parasites can cause very loose stools in young puppies though, some of which they can actually pick up from their mother. I like Esbilac puppy milk for new puppies, which can be ordered on the internet and generally is good on sensitive baby tummies. Is your puppy passing gas regularly? This can also be a problem. Newborn puppies can become very dehydrated quickly if they are not eating properly-if you are very concerned or your puppy is becoming lethargic I encourage you to take him in to see a veterinarian. As long as Okoye is pooping at least once a day, I wouldn't be too worried about her. I would be concerned if she wasn't pooping at all. Make sure the milk you are giving her is kitten milk replacer or a specific cat milk. Cats are lactose intolerant and shouldn't be given cow's milk. I would feed her at least three times a day with wet food. This is because wet food can dry out quickly and become unappetizing to her, leading her to not eat it. You can mix together wet food and dry food for her, or just feed her dry food. If you feed her dry food, you can leave the food out all the time. Feed her three times a day with the wet food until she is six months old, and then you can feed her twice a day. Good luck, I hope this helps!
