My kitten threw up worms. Is my wormer paste the correct treatment?

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 lbs

My kitten threw up worms yesterday. I believe they are round worms. I purchased an ‘all wormer’ aristopet all wormer paste, which states it treats roundworm. Is this the appropriate way to treat it?

Yes - a wormer designed for roundworms is the best option. Be sure to follow all directions as regards minimum age for use (some should not be used before 9weeks etc), correct species and weight and to repeat treatment at the correct frequency. If she is vomiting frequently, a spot on medication may be more useful to ensure she does not vomit the oral treatment before it has time to work. Your vets office can advise on the most appropriate product available in your area

    Well, I think the safest plan would be to have him seen by your veterinarian. My concern with would be if he is vomiting then he may have an obstruction from a large mass of worms. My other concern would be that if he is vomiting he may not hold down the medication to clear the parasites. I would also recommend you take one of the worms with you to the veterinarian to determine what type of worm it is so they can prescribe the most effective treatment. Poor kitty. Typically most pets require a second deworming 2 weeks after the 1st to treat for re-emergence of worms because of their life cycle, so yes it is appropriate to deworm Molly at this time. Pyrantel palmoate or Fenbendazole are typicallly used. This should clear things up for good, as long as she doesn't get re-infected from exposure to the outside. Keeping her on a monthly flea preventative like Revolution can also help prevent re-infection because it contains an intestinal dewormer in it as well.

Thank toy for submitting your question regarding Dusty. I would contact her veterinarian in the morning to let them know of the vomiting. It is likely due to the deworming medication. It can sometimes cause vomiting as the parasites are being killed. They may send her home with an anti-nausea medication if this is the case. This medication can typically given as an injection by the veterinarian and then tablets to continue at home. I hope this information helps!

Why is my cat still throwing up worms and mucus after deworming?
That looks like a roundworm. You need to deworm a cat every two weeks when they have worms due to the life cycle of the worm. The deworming treatment will not kill eggs. So the first treatment kills the adult worms present while the second one kills the worms that had not yet hatched at the time of the first deworming. Give Max a deworming treatment now, another in two weeks, and then another two weeks after that to be safe.

I’m going to guess that this is a roundworm. It can be difficult to identify adult worms but it is usually much easier to identify eggs in a stool sample. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian for a stool analysis and to get the appropriate deworming medication.

Hi. Poor sprinkles. I would recommend waiting for a medication from the veterinarian. The medications coming from the veterinarian will work a lot better than over the counter medications in addition to getting a correct diagnosis. I would however try to get in somewhere tomorrow. Good luck
