My kitten is very sick: tired, not eating, swollen face. What to do?

Congrats on your new kitten but I'm sorry Thor isn't doing well! It is concerning that this sore is swollen, which is a sign of infection. He could also have intestinal worms causing his diarrhea. A heavy burden of them can lead a kitten to be more lethargic and not want to eat, as could an infection such as from the sore on his ear. It's serious enough that Thor should see a vet first thing in the morning so his symptoms can be diagnosed and treated.

This may be the start of an upper respiratory disease. They usually do have a fever and swollen lymph nodes (possibly causing the face to swell) early in the infection, which will make them feel bad. They also tend to avoid eating and drinking early in the infection. It appears that both sides of Blue's face are swollen, but if it happens that only one side is swollen, then this can indicate a local infection/abscess. This can happen with bite wounds, other puncture wounds, or dental disease. I wouldn't be too concerned about this being an emergency, but it's best if you can get Blue to a vet within the next day or two. While these infections are often mild, they can become complicated, which will make things much worse. The vet would be able to narrow-down the cause of this and prescribe the necessary treatment to make him feel better and keep the infection from getting worse. Hello, it looks like an abscess, probably a tooth abscess, it's an emergency as he is not eating, take him to the emergency vet as soon as you can today, the abscess will need to be drained under anesthesia first, then a course of antibiotics will be given.

Poor baby. It sounds to me like he needs additional medical attention. His pain control may not be adequate for his injuries, or he could be developing an infection. I would recommend taking him to an emergency vet clinic tonight to be assessed and his treatment adjusted.

This is an emergency. Your kitty could have a severe allergic reaction, or a snake bite or serious injury (maybe because of a collision with a car). He needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. Please take him to a PetEr right now as this sounds life-threatening.

Moving into a new home is stressful, but it shouldn't cause Thor to have vomiting and diarrhea as well as not eat. That tells me he is sick. If you are feeding him a different diet than what he got previously, that could be the cause of his illness. Try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones), but if he won't eat this or the other symptoms continue, take him into the vet first thing in the morning. Best of luck.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tmii! I think you need to have a Vet come to you or take him to one as soon as possible. Tmii looks critically ill and needs aggressive supportive care. I do not think any at home care will pull him through this unfortunately. Can you call the Vet again and see if he/she can recommend someone to examine Tmii? All you can do is keep him warm, syringe water and canned food slurries gently and give the recommended medications. I wish you and Tmii the best!
