My kitten's face is swollen and he's sleepy. When should I see a vet?

Hello, it looks like an abscess, probably a tooth abscess, it's an emergency as he is not eating, take him to the emergency vet as soon as you can today, the abscess will need to be drained under anesthesia first, then a course of antibiotics will be given.

Oh my. This sounds like your poor Thor may have been bitten by something in the face and is in need of immediate medical attention. Most cats will still eat even when they are a little bit ill, so when a cat decides not to eat we know they are in trouble. I would highly recommend taking Thor into your local ER vet right away for care. If you can't make it in tonight then it's best to have him seen in the morning for testing and treatment depending on what the underlying cause is. A sudden swelling under the jaw could be an abscess. Typically these need to be seen by a vet; as they often need to be lanced/drained to get the pus and infection out; then started on antibiotics. Pain medication may be given as well. If he isn't eating, if he's acting lethargic or otherwise not feeling well (vomiting, diarrhea, any change in breathing) seek emergency care. If your vet's office is closed, they likely have a message with who to call or where to seek after hours care in the case of an emergency. I am sorry to hear about your kitten! I would recommend bringing her in for an exam at your vet. If the swelling is progressing tonight or she develops any difficulty breathing I would get her to the emergency vet. We could have swelling do to an allergic reaction from an insect bite or exposure to any other substance/plant (most of the time we don't see a mark/know the cause) but I would also want to check for things like an abscess or infected tooth causing swelling. It sounds like he may also have a mild upper respiratory infection (like us having a cold) that he has passed to the other cats. I am having some difficulty understanding what you are saying. From the picture, I would be very concerned about more than just Zity's eye. His skin on the face also is not normal. This could be caused by a severe bacterial or fungal infection, viral infection, mites, among a few others. His eye itself looks very unhealthy, and it may have a corneal ulcer, which would need specific veterinary treatment to try to save it. Terramycin will help with minor bacterial infections, which I do not think this is a minor infection. An enlarged abdomen in a kitten can be caused by a severe intestinal parasite infestation, FIP, low blood protein, congenital defect, among a few others. Zity should have both the distended abdomen and the eye/face problems evaluated by a vet as soon as possible.

This is a classic presentation of a cat with an upper respiratory disease and conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis can be caused by a few different infections, but is commonly caused by a virus that most cats harbor and comes out during times of stress. These infections can become complicated with bacterial infections and cause more problems. Nugget's eyes appear rather infected, so I recommend taking her to the vet for an evaluation. They will be able to better inspect the eye and provide the most appropriate treatment. For now, you can flush the eye 3-4 times a day with saline (can get this at the pharmacy) to help clean and soothe it.
