My kitten was stepped on. Could she have a broken rib or other injuries?

Symptoms of a broken rib? My kitten is nearly 8 weeks old, last night she was accidentally stood on. What other possible injuries may she have?

Poor Blue! Symptoms of a broken rib would include fast or labored breathing, and crying or acting painful when her chest is touched. In some cases, you may even be able to feel a fracture by running your fingers over her rib cage. If she was stepped on, she could also have other internal injuries such as damage to her liver, kidneys, or spleen, bruising of the lungs, or internal bleeding. If she is acting painful or lethargic, I would definitely recommend having her examined by a vet as soon as possible - she may need x-rays to help determine the problem and find out what can be done to help her.

    She should be examined by a veterinarian to determine the extent of the injury and determine if treatment is needed. She may need an xray to look for any fractures. Your vet can also prescribe pain medications to help relieve any discomfort. Please call a vet and have her examined as soon as possible.

    If your kitten seems hurt, you need to take her urgently to the vet. If she doesn't seem to be affected then she was probably lucky. If she is just slightly limping- just give it a few hours to see if it gets better or not.

Hello, it sounds like Jinxx is ok from what you're describing. Signs of more severe injuries may include lameness, vocalizing, hiding, pain, decreased appetite. If Jinxx seems to be aware of everything and is acting like her normal self then she should be ok. If you note any of these signs then contact your veterinarian and have her evaluated. Ouch! Poor kitten! Please take the kitten to a veterinarian as soon as possible. They are delicate and when stepped on a broken bone or internal trauma can happen. At the very least a veterinarian can prescribe pain medication. Please remember, there are no safe over the counter pain meds for cats or kittens.

My kitten was stepped on, breathing funny, and limping. What to do?
Ideally, Aries should be physically examined by your veterinarian. If he is breathing normally, not lethargic, has pink gums and is not extremely painful, then you can likely have him examined first thing tomorrow. X-rays of the paw and leg may be indicated to diagnose any fractures. If you can, restrict his activity for the rest of the night. Use a cat carrier if you have one. If he is very painful or if his breathing becomes labored and he is lethargic, then he should be examined tonight at the nearest veterinary ER.

My cat cries when touched between legs after a cat jumped on her.
Hello. It is impossible to say exactly what might be going on, but we should rule out the possibility of a bruised rib or small fracture. Your veterinarian may need to clip some hair down to the skin to see what things look like. It is good that everything else is well with her so it does not sound like there is anything serious. My cat's rib is broken, no vet available. What first aid can I give?
I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened to Mely. There really aren't any over the counter pain medications that are safe for cats (they mostly cause liver failure). Wrapping her chest with a bandage may help keep her more comfortable, HOWEVER if you wrap too tight she won't be able to breath so be very careful if you try this and check her every 30-60 minutes to make sure she's struggling to breath. I hope you can get to the vet soon so she can be taken care of.

My kitten has a broken bone. What emergency steps should I take?
A broken bone can not be fixed at home. The kitten needs to see a veterinarian if you want any chance of saving her. Broken bones are not usually fatal so if she is "about to die" then something else may be going on (like she is in shock or has internal bleeding). She may have internal injuries if she sustained some trauma that broke her leg. Please get her to a veterinarian as soon as possible. It is cruel to leave her in pain and suffering.

Poor Simba! There is a chance he has damaged something when he fell. For example he could have broken a rib or caused a rupture in a lung or diaphragm. It may just be that he's in a bit of pain from being bruised. However I would go to the vet to have an exam just because it could be something serious.
