Why is my 3-month-old kitten sleeping a lot and meowing hoarsely?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lethargy can be caused by a lot of things including an infection, inflammation, among other possibilities. This could also be normal in a kitten as they are not always very active at that age. If you think she is sick it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Have a good night!

I would recommend you consider going to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds like Beau only seemed disinterested in one meal this morning, but has since had a good appetite. He is also urinating and defecating normally, which is good. As long as Beau continues to eat, isn't having any vomiting or diarrhea or acting excessively lethargic, and is otherwise healthy, I would not be worried. I would keep a close eye on him for the next day or so to make sure he is doing well. I hope this is helpful!

Congrats on your kitten! It is normal for kittens to sleep up to 20 hours a day and be awake and playful for the remaining 4 hours. As long as Olive is active and alert with a good appetite and normal urination/defecation when she is awake, sleeping most of the day is completely normal. Good luck!

Kittens can purr both because they are happy, but also because they are sick. It sounds like Milo has had a fairly dramatic change in his attitude and energy. Kittens can become very sick very quickly and will require medical attention to improve, so I would recommend having Milo examined by a veterinarian ASAP. Good luck! Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Kittens can breathe quite rapidly, even when they are sleeping, especially if they are dreaming. As long as his breathing rate is able to slow to a more normal rate, like 30-50 breaths per minute, and he is otherwise acting normally (eating/drinking well with a good energy level), he will likely be just fine! If he even seems distressed with his breathing, or he is coughing or sneezing a lot, he should be seen by a veterinarian. I hope this is helpful!
