My 3-month-old kitten is tiny and has severe watery diarrhea. Why?

Pet's info: Cat | Bombay | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 25 days old | 1lb

Hi we found ash and his brother about a month ago his brother has grown twice the size but ash is about 3 months old and he is the size of a 3 week old kitten. Why is that? He has resently cought something that is making him have diarriah that looks like water constantly and hurts him really bad. Now he is walking and has been pooping without knowing. Do you know what is wrong with my baby? We are trying to get to the vet but its going to be a while and we dont have much money. Thank You.

Poor Ash! He could have a parasite, infection, congenital abnormality, etc. He really needs to be seen by a vet as soon as possible. Your vet can test a stool sample to help determine the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. You could try to find a low cost clinic or try the Humane society in your area and see if they can help. Hope he feels better soon!

At her age this can be from an infection or intestinal parasites. It may be food related also. There are no medications safe to give cats over the counter. You can get a dewormer from pet supply store to give that and pick up a feline probiotic to help to add to her food. Her vet will need to check a fresh stool sample to check for any bacteria or other parasites that may need an antibiotic to further help.

Diarrhea or loose stools can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Bailee evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

If they all have it, it could be due to something like intestinal worms. It's concerning this diarrhea won't go away, and they can easily become dehydrated from it. I'd take them into the vet first thing in the morning to get the cause of the diarrhea diagnosed so they can be treated. I hope this helps!

She is cute! She could have an infection or a parasite. You could take a stool sample to your vet and have it tested for parasites. If she hasn't been dewormed then an intestinal parasite is a definite possibility and your vet can prescribe a dewormer. She might also need some fluids to prevent dehydration. You could also add a probiotic to her food and see if that helps. Hope she gets better soon!

My new kitten has watery diarrhea and a bulging anus. What's wrong?

Poor Jameson. This is pretty common in kittens for many different reasons. It could be stress related from moving to her new home. She also could have some intestinal parasites that is causing the diarrhea. You said you have not changed her food, so I"m assuming she is eating what she was on at the shelter. IF you have changed from that, this could also be causing diarrhea. I worry about her anus bulging. They strain when having diarrhea and this could lead to a rectal prolapse. I think she should see a veterinarian so they can test for intestinal parasites and hopefully get her started on some diarrhea medications and possibly a bland diet. They can also help with dehydration by giving her some fluids under her skin as these little guys can become dehydrated very quickly. Hope this little girl can get turned around soon.

Why is my 1-month-old kitten having hourly brown slimy diarrhea?

These signs may be compatible with a moderate to severe gastrointestinal inflammation/ infection. Dehydration can occur quite rapidly in kittens so a clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. My 2-month-old kitten has liquid poop, eating less, but is playful.

Poor kitty. It is very possible Shunki has a bacterial or parasitic infection. THe first step here is to take her to your vet to get her stools tested. If she has a parasite or bacteria imbalance, it can get treated quickly through your vet in most cases. Until you can get her in to be seen, its best to offer her plenty of water to keep her hydrated and perhaps even mixing 50:50 non-flavored Pedialyte with water to replace her electrolyte losses. You should also give her a probiotic daily such as Fortiflora or even over the counter Culturelle works well. I do hope that Shunki's diarrhea issues resolve soon! Best of luck and take care.

My 4-month-old kitten has sudden runny, smelly diarrhea but is active.

Congratulations on your new kitten - she is adorable! Alley may have intestinal parasites, which are pretty common in cats living outside. It may have taken about 2 weeks for the symptoms to start as the parasites need to go through their life cycle to start causing problems. The diarrhea may also be caused by a bacterial or viral infection, but these are somewhat less likely. I recommend having her seen by a vet as soon as possible so that the appropriate treatment can be started. She will also need a good physical exam to make sure that she is otherwise healthy. I recommend that you wash your hands thoroughly with warm soapy water after handling Alley's litter, as some of these parasites can be transmitted to people.

Is my 6-week kitten's diarrhea, bloated stomach, and red butt serious?

He does look very sore and any diarrhoea which lasts more than 2 days in young kittens should be treated as they can rapidly become dehydrated and malnourished if not absorbing food and water sufficiently. I would get a stool sample checked for parasites and also start him on a specialist, highly digestible intestinal diet for 3-5days followed by a good quality kitten food introduced gradually. Probiotics can also be helpful
