Is 6 weeks old too early for kittens to go to their new homes?

Hi there I would ideally wait until the kittens are 8 weeks old. Many people re home kittens at 6 weeks, but the longer they can be with their mom the better. I'd make sure to continue to work on weaning them as you have, but if you can wait until 8 weeks of age that would be best. Thanks for using Pet Coach!

You can continue nursing him with kitten formula until he is about 6-7 weeks old at which point you may switch him to a kibble or canned food diet. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian who can check him and see if he needs any therapy and they can then recommend a preventative plan including vaccines. Best of luck!

Kittens should really be with their mom receiving their mom's milk until they are about 8 weeks old. You may need to check with your municipality or local animal control to determine any legal issues there are or may be. Congratulations! What a beautiful kitten! Most vets start a vaccine series between 6-8 weeks of age, and will also deworm or check stool samples at the first visit. Following that, they typically need a visit/booster every 3-5 weeks until they are a few months old. The exact vaccines schedule will be individualized by your vet. They may also recommend parasite prevention or routine dewormers. Other things you can do at home include feeding a high quality kitten food, checking their urine and stool output and getting them used to being handled. Becoming well socialized is very important! Make sure they have plenty of vertical space like a cat tree, handle him gently and frequently - get him used to having his nail trims, etc. Don't let him bite you:) It looks like you are off to a great start!

Kittens best stay with their mommy until they are 12 weeks old. Their mother will teach them what is good to eat and what not, how to hunt, and what to hunt safely, how to groom themselves properly, how to use a litter box, what animal is dangerous to them, how to carefully negotiate this world. The kittens will also need their mother still for psychological comfort, even suckling after being weaned is comfort when something was scary. Staying together with their siblings will teach kittens social skills, they get to play-hunt, play-fight, and have fun with other kittens, it keeps them fit, helps them to develop coordination and muscles. So if you can find homes for them before they are 12 weeks old, tell the new owners that they will get well socialised fit kittens that have no problems, rather than kittens who will cry because they miss mommy and the siblings, do have accidents, and show behavior such as cloth sucking, etc.

At six weeks of age, he will be fully weaned and does not need formula. Keep feeding him the wet kitten food, and you can start introducing small amounts of dry kitten for him as well. Give him the same brand of dry food as the wet food. He is not too young to be adopted out. I would consider six weeks the minimum age to be adopted out. I hope this helps!

While eight weeks is best, it's fine to have Cayde come to your home at seven weeks since you will be at home. That will be great in helping her adjust to her new home, and at seven weeks of age, she will be fully weaned from her mother.
