Found a raised spot on my 10-week-old kitten. What should I do?

These generally are find to just keep an eye on but if you would like it gone, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the mass and discuss options for removal. It is hard to say exactly what it may be sight unseen (can't get a good look or feel from the picture), I can certainly offer a few possibilities. It may be just a scab from playing rough or bumping into something. It also could be a small abscess from one of her vaccines she received previously-that sometimes can happen and is quite common. Another possibility would be a bite wound from another cat or a fungal or bacterial infection. If the lesion feels like little millet seeds, it could be a flea allergy (especially if she is not receiving a month to month flea preventative). If it gets worse or does not improve in a few days, I would bring her into her primary care veterinarian an exam and diagnostic testing. Best wishes to you and Biscuit!

It could also be a skin infection. Without seeing her in person, I cannot diagnose exactly what is going on. I'd have her seen by a vet to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is difficult to see a lump in the photo, but at Capernicus’s age, malignant growths are fairly unlikely. This may be a reaction to a vaccine if administered recently that should disappear with time. I recommend keeping an eye on it and having the spot seen by a vet if there is any discharge, bleeding, increase in size, or it seems to be bothering him. I hope this helps and that all is well!

Hello there, Thanks for the good photo. If it is a small minor wound like a pimple or scratch, it should be mostly healed within a week of forming. If its been present for longer than that or is worsening, I would be more concerned that it is the start of an infection or growth that would benefit from being seen by her veterinarian. This one does not look like a typical benign and harmless ski tag (still could be !), so please take Fluffington to your local vets for an appointment. Your vet may recommend to treat it with anti-inflammatory cream or to aspirate it with a needle to find out what type of growth this is.

It could be a small cyst (non cancerous growth) from epidermal origin, or potentially a small abscess that has not yet reached the point of rupture from a sting or bite. If it is possible I would suggest clipping the hair short to get a better look. If you can get a picture, this would help us to better help you out. Likely Freya will need to see a vet for either a drainage of this or a removal if the mass becomes bothersome. Antibiotics will be warranted if the mass ends up being an abscess that is currently brewing under the skin. I hope this helps! Please resubmit if you can get some photos!
