My cat has a small red bump like a pimple. Does she need a vet?

My cat has a small red bump that almost looks like a scabbed over pimple. It doesn’t seem like it hurts her, but I wanted to know if should bring her to the vet

Hello there,

Thanks for the good photo. If it is a small minor wound like a pimple or scratch, it should be mostly healed within a week of forming.
If its been present for longer than that or is worsening, I would be more concerned that it is the start of an infection or growth that would benefit from being seen by her veterinarian.

While it is difficult to tell for certain from the picture, I would strongly suspect there is an infection going on. I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian to have it evaluated. It will most likely require medication to treat the infection. If there is a collection of infected fluid under the skin (abscess), that will most likely require further treatment as well. Hi there,

The bump on Skitt could be a few different things. It could be a mammary tumor, a benign skin mass, or a sebacous cyst (clogged oil gland).

Any type of bump should be tested by your vet to find out what it is. This entails them sticking a small needle in the bump and collecting some cells. They then look at these cells under the microscope to provide a diagnosis and then recommend if the bump needs to be removed or not.

My cat has a red bump on her face. Is it an abscess? See a vet?

I would recommend having your vet examine Mochi to see what is going on. It looks like there is a little hair loss as well. If your other cat scratched her and some of the bacteria from the claw punctured the skin, you may not see any blood, but she may have an abscess under the skin that needs to be treated. Thank you for attaching a picture of Leo's bump! It could be from an injury, such as him scratching his chin and accidentally cutting himself. I would keep an eye on it for now. Lesions above the eyes can be the result of scratching due to itchy ears from an infection. Cats can be private and she may scratch while she is alone. You can also check her ears for discharge as this is also a sign of an infection. I hope this information helps!
