My kitten stopped eating and is hiding. Should I take him to the vet?

Unfortunately there are many things that could be making Misti not eat. Just like humans, pets can pick up viruses, infections in the intestines, or something they shouldn’t have. Parasites, toxin ingestion or even an obstruction are all possible. Any pet who does not eat for 24 hours needs to be examined by the veterinarian. Mitzi does sound quite sick, and I'm concerned that she has not eaten or drank today. It's actually very serious when a cat won't eat, as they will develop a fatty liver if they go too long without eating. Without additional clinical signs it is hard to say exactly what is causing his lethargy and decreased appetite but he could be starting with a respiratory virus or a gastrointestinal virus. What a cute kitten! Offering a meat flavored baby food may help entice him to eat. Warming his food may also allow him to smell it better which will help his appetite. I can understand your concern. Cats can hide illness quite well. But typical signs of illness can include: decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and unusual behavior (like hiding or seeking more attention than normal).
