My kitten is sick and won't eat after vet visit. What should I do?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1.7 lbs

Mr.Barnaby was taken to the vet and was dewormed and given medicene for ear mites.He was throwing up so we went.He still is not eating and is on the small side.What do you re cComend besides going back to the vet (which we are going to do)?

What a cute kitten! Offering a meat flavored baby food may help entice him to eat. Warming his food may also allow him to smell it better which will help his appetite. Offer him small meals several times a day as his stomach is too small to eat a lot at one time at this age. Definitely have him rechecked by your veterinarian if he's not eating by tomorrow. I hope he's feeling better soon.

Poor Toby. He is likely just really scared. You may try to put him in a quiet room by himself with just his food and litter box to see if this helps to calm him and see if he will eat. You can also try to cook him some plain boneless skinless chicken breast to see if he will eat that. If this is all due to the change of environment and stress, his appetite should pick up once you take him back home. If not, I would definitely take him to your vet when you return. If at any point in your vacation, he shows other symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or stops eating completely then I would have a vet near you take a look at him. That vet will be able to see what else might be going on and even start him on an appetite stimulant if needed. I hope this helps!

I'm sorry to hear Buddy isn't feeling well. Without seeing him it's hard to say what caused the sudden inappetance. I doubt it is related to his recent vet visit. If he isn't vomiting or having diarrhea I would offer some canned kitten food to see if he will eat. If he doesn't eat longer than 24 hours I would take him to the vet for an exam and find out why he isn't eating. I would worry his blood sugar will drop too low if he doesn't eat. I would recommend that you take Arfa to your vet for a physical examination and possibly diagnostic testing, such as bloodwork, parvo testing, or x-rays. The symptoms you describe are a little vague, but could be caused by bacterial infection, viral infection (such as panleukopenia virus), intestinal parasites, intestinal obstruction, among many others. At this point, offer Arfa many different types of dry and wet cat food and even kitten milk replacer to see if you can entice her to eat. Your kitten needs to be seen by a vet immediately. Cats cannot go without eating for more than a few days without suffering liver damage. Your kitten is likely very dehydrated and weak and will need supportive care to help him survive. Right now, make sure he stays warm and mix some honey or corn syrup with warm water and very carefully use a syringe or dropper to get him to swallow some of this to help rehydrate him and give him some calories. Be very careful because it is easy to choke him when he is this weak.

Why is my kitten not eating and hunching after dewormer shot?

It is possible that the worms were the reason why he wasn't eating, and the deworming treatment itself can make him feel nauseous and unwell. It's the result of the dead worms moving through his GI system. I would recommend offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts to try to tempt him to eat. You can also soak his dry food in tuna juice, or offer him gently warmed really smelly wet food, such as sardine or fish based. If he still isn't eating in the morning, I would have him seen by the vet again. It will take at least two deworming treatments to kill all the worms.

I would recommend taking the kitten back to the veterinarian for a recheck and further testing to see what could be going on with Meow. Meow will likely need further treatment. My 4-month-old kitten is suddenly lethargic and won't eat. Help!

It sounds like he is getting sick. Without additional clinical signs it is hard to say exactly what is causing his lethargy and decreased appetite but he could be starting with a respiratory virus or a gastrointestinal virus. He could also have parasites that need to be treated. If it continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run lab work to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. If he is unvaccinated, please discuss a vaccine plan with your vet once he has recovered from this illness.

Sick kitten not eating after flea meds. How can I help him recover?

Hello, I recommend having multiple types of smelly, soft food available to encourage Olly's appetite. Canned tuna may be helpful as well. If you are unable to encourage eating at home, he will need to be seen by a veterinarian. A dropper holds such a small amount of fluid that it is likely not making a difference.
