My 4-week-old kitten has a mouth problem. Is it an infection?

It is difficult to tell form the picture alone what is going on with your cat's lips unfortunately. It almost looks like she/he has a sore or even infection in her/his whiskers and commissure of the mouth. I would recommend you take your cat to your vet for an exam. She/he may need antibiotics to resolve this and possibly pain medication is she/he is is uncomfortable. I would also be concerned there may be sores in the mouth that need to be addressed if you are seeing them along the outside. It is possible your cat licked something toxic or caustic causing these problems. I would look around your home to see if there is anything she/he could have gotten in to. This sounds like a viral infection. It is something to be concerned with as it can develop into an upper respiratory infection and cause a decrease in appetite. As long as she is eating and holding her eyes open, then having her checked at your schedule appointment will be fine

It is hard to say what this is exactly without seeing Squid and his sores. He may have traumatized the area and it may now be infected. He may need oral antibiotics or other medications from the veterinarian to get these sores to heal as this area is difficult to medicate topically. It is difficult to medicate topically because Squid will likely lick off the medication quickly. Therefore, you will need to make sure that any topical medications used, if they are used, are safe to ingest. Those lesions could be related to ringworm (which humans can get) or mites. I recommend to have Bora visit her veterinarian for diagnostics and treatment. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

I’m sorry your little kitten is having a problem. It is not possible to decide if this skin issue is a bacterial or fungal infection from the photo. Your kitten should see a vet ASAP in order to properly diagnose it. Due to the very young age and small size, it is important to know exactly what type of infection it is, what medication is safe and the proper dosages. The veterinarian can also give a good general exam and possibly check for intestinal parasites as the kitten appears to have a round bloated belly.
