Found a lump under my 4-month-old kitten's nipple. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 lbs

Hello. I found a lump under one of my kittens nipples on the back left side yesterday. She is almost 4 months old.this is what it looks like when she stands . She has no symptoms at all.thank you. I am taking her to get her shots tonight and was hopping they can examine her there too.i don’t know what to do .

A lump in such a young cat could be an infection, a small wound, an insect bite, a lymph node, or waaay less likely, a mass. If she's going to a full-service veterinarian tonight they can definitely give you a good idea of what's going on. If you're going to a vaccine clinic, they'll be more limited in what they can do but can still give you a good idea if it's something normal or concerning. Between now and then, just leave the bump alone so that doesn't get bigger from being messed with. Don't try to clean it or pop it or remove it in anyway. Good luck to you and Kitty!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is difficult to know without being able to to examine your kitten. This may be due to an infection for instance. I recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to examine her and determine what seems more likely so that therapy, if indicated, is started. Best of luck!

Hi there. This could be a type of bite, abscess, or a tumor. SHe is fairly young for a tumor, but it has to be on the list. A sample and examination of the mass is needed to find which is the cause.

You can be advised if they are anything to worry about for her. Older cats will develop mammary growths, but this would be unusual in such a young kitten. My cat has a shoulder lump. Should I worry if she purrs when touched?

In a cat this young, the lump is likely to be something like a cyst or a benign tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. I'd call Baby's vet to make her an appointment to get this checked out. Best of luck.

Is a hard lump under my cat's chin normal after recent vaccinations?

Poor girl. Due to her age a mass here would be less likely as the cause for this hard lump. This may be an abscess or even a cyst. It is difficult to tell without feeling it in person, however, if it does not go down on its own within a few days to a week, then I would recommend having your vet check it out further. If it is an abscess, then cats typically will start to act ill (decreased appetite, low grade fever, lethargy) after a few days, in which case the abscess would need to be drained by your vet and then KitKat would need a short course of antibiotics to get things to heal well. Otherwise, I would recommend monitoring this for now to see what happens. I hope that Kit Kat's strange lump heals well soon! : ) Best wishes and take care.

My kitten has a painless lump after vaccination. Is it an emergency?

Great question! This lump could be a localized reaction to the vaccine if the lump is in the area where the vaccine was given. Other options could be a cyst or a benign tumor. Given it's not painful and if she is otherwise acting normally, this isn't an emergency. Keep an eye on this lump, and if it doesn't go down over the next couple of days or gets bigger, then I would have Poppy seen by a vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Why does my unspayed female kitten have lumps under her nipples?

My guess is that it is just hormone related hyperplasia. The other option is mastitis - it may be just starting. I would just keep an eye on it since she is acting otherwise normal. If after a couple weeks they lumps are still present you should have her examined by your vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Cats, that have not been spayed, are very prone to developing mammary tumors. The majority of these tumors are unfortunately cancerous.
