Can a rescued kitten with lip and nose injuries heal without surgery?

I found a kitten this morning. Someone has hurt her and tied her in a long men's sock and left her to die in an alley in freezing cold temperatures. She has a lower lip avulsion and scraped nose. I brought her home to get warm and fed her. She eats soft food and drinks water on her own. She doesn't seem like she's in pain and is not afraid of people or other animals and acts perfectly normal. You can't even tell she's hurt unless she looks up. Is it possible for her to heal without surgery?

That is very nice that your took her in! She really should be examined by a vet to determine the extent of her injuries and determine if treatment is needed. It is difficult to know if she could heal without actually examining her and evaluating all her injuries.

Hello, sorry to hear about Lele. That is technically not a cleft palate and more so a fracture of her hard palate. It may heal on its own, however, this should be a recommendation made by your veterinarian after they examine Lele. She may need a CT scan to fully evaluate the extent of the damages within her mouth and head. I would recommend having her evaluated immediately by your veterinarian or a surgery team to determine if Lele needs any surgical procedure to stabilize her injuries. I would observe the lesion for oozing , infection , bleeding, excessive swelling, or even expanding. If none of this happens and it heals over the next week, then there is no need to take your kitty to the vet. Should the cut not heal, I would have your veterinarian examine it.

Poor Poppy! I don't see any signs of infection from the picture, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I'd have her checked out by a vet to be safe, especially since she is drinking less and staying more indoors.

Best would be if you could take Snowball to your vet for an exam. Without seeing even a photo of the lesion and how deep it is I am afraid I cannot tell you whether it will heal by itself. He may need some antibiotics to help it heal.

It's very concerning that she was bleeding from the nose and mouth and seemed unresponsive at first - so I would be worried that she may have some serious internal injuries, even if she seems okay right now. I'm afraid there is no way that you can determine this at home, so she really does need to see a vet right away. If you call your regular vet's office, their voicemail or answering service should have information about where the nearest emergency clinic is, or contact information for an on-call veterinarian who can see your kitten tonight.

My kitten's nose is bleeding after a dog attack. Is it an emergency?

Ideally, the kitten should be physically examined by a veterinarian to diagnose any other injuries. If it is a minor bleed, it should stop with some gentle pressure. If there is internal injury, that can be addressed by the veterinarian after the exam. Monitor for lethargy, ataxia (wobbly gait), difficulty breathing, pale gums, uneven pupils or bleeding from the ears or anywhere else.
