My cat fell. Will her palate injury heal or does she need surgery?

That is very nice that your took her in! She really should be examined by a vet to determine the extent of her injuries and determine if treatment is needed. It is difficult to know if she could heal without actually examining her and evaluating all her injuries.

Unfortunately the chances are very low, especially because usually other abnormalities (cardiac congenital problems especially) are commonly present at the same time. An immediate check up is required to better evaluate all the possible deformities and give you a more reliable prognosis.

Poor girl. This is severe break and the pieces are not at all aligned. Unfortunately because the two bones are not aligned properly to heal back together naturally, this likely needs surgical correction. Poor kitty. : ( I recommend discussing with the vet about surgery for this poor kitty to help align the bones. I am not an orthopedic surgeon however, so a consult is needed to discuss if this particular break is repairable surgically or if there are other things that need to be done. I'm so sorry to hear if Miss Meow's accident! I'm glad you were able to take her in to be evaluated and treated. Without seeing a picture of the wound it is difficult to say how much, if any, deformity will remain in the long run. The tongue is a very rapidly healing organ though and I suspect that after a few days Meow will be feeling back to her old self again. You may need to offer her soft/canned foods for a week or so and your vet will likely prescribe some pain medications and antibiotics.

It really depends on how severe the defects are. The larger the cleft palate the more risk to the puppy for failure to thrive from lack of nutrition and aspiration pneumonia. These puppies can require a lot of care to try to give them time to mature to see if the defects will close a little. Ultimately surgery is typically required to address the defects. These surgeries are best performed by a boarded surgeon for maximal success. I have attached a link below with more information. I would recommend that your puppy be seen by your family vet to assess the extent of the defects. If tube feeding is indicated he/she can show you how to do this. This puppy should also be weighed daily, be monitored for dehydration, and be monitored for signs of pneumonia. These puppies and parents of high risk breeds ideally should not be bred as genetics are the main cause of this issue. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. It appears as though the skin has been detached from the lower jaw from an injury of some sort. I would recommend having a veterinarian look at this for the most appropriate treatment. She will likely need to be sedated and have stitches placed in this area to help reattach the skin to the jaw.

Poor Floquinha, pictures can be very difficult to interpret but it looks like she may have pulled to skin away from the gums. I would recommend a vet check to ensure there is no infection or debris in the wound but at this late stage surgical repair may not be possible with treatment aiming to keep the area clean and allow secondary wound healing.
