This is problem (called pica commonly) is sometimes related to anemic state or metabolic disorder (hyperthyroidism for example). What Mickey is doing is not uncommon at all. I actually have a similar issue with my kitty but she prefers to lick my sofa. Unfortunately, most of the time you never find out the exact cause or trigger. Some kitties develop compulsive behaviors which sometimes require medications that your veterinarian could prescribe.
