Why is my young kitten licking my older cat's private parts so much?

Hello. There is no immediate danger with this behavior & the male kitten will eventually kick everyone off him as he matures. Because of the self-grooming cats do I do not recommend placing a bitter spray on him. Just anytime you see one of the kittens doing this, just gently remove her & try to distract with a treat. It looks like there is a lot of inflammation and possibly blood present around your cat's anus and scrotum. Because your cat is so young this concerns me. I would recommend you keep the dog away from the kitten for now. I'd also recommend taking the kitten in to be checked out by your vet. These young kittens have very weak immune systems and he could get ill very quickly

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It may be that they are heading towards sexual maturity or the female cat expressed her anal glands. Most neutered male cats will lick themselves while their penis is out. I would consider neutering him sooner, as long as he is 5 lbs I think it is fine to do before 6 months of age. Good luck!

I would try to keep the kittens separated if the femal continues to try and nurse from the male. Right now the male appears normal but continued irritation could cause a problem. I would also recommend making sure they are getting enough nutrition because she may just be hungry.

I would not allow this behavior and I would not consider it "normal". It is surely due to her being weaned too early. She would do this to any nipple she finds - male or female or even a different species. Please don't allow her to do this. If you stop the behavior now she will likely stop doing it. Best wishes.

This is usually not a hunger-driven activity in a 10 week old kitten. It can indicate that the kitten was weaned or taken away from its mother too early. I would definitely continue to prevent this behavior, as it can continue into adulthood and could cause problems like an infection in the mammary gland of your dog. You may have your dog wear a shirt to cover the nipples, or keep them separated unless you can monitor them. Since it can be brought on by stress, you can try supplements for stress such as Zylkene or Feliway/Comfort Zone Feline Pheromones. Your cat may be trying to bond with your younger cat, and this is normal and healthy. Make certain you don't see any signs of skin infection or ear mites or other physical issue going on, however, that would require veterinary attention. Sometimes ear infections will trigger excessive grooming among pets.
