Kitten head injury: nosebleed, swollen nose, sneezing. Vet needed?

My kitten had something heavy fall on his head and his nose started bleeding after that for around half a minute. Then he started shaking his head and was lazy and slept for a while but then a bit later he got up and started walking and playing agian and acting normal other than he keeps sneezing and sneezing. His nose is round and from the front it looks larger than normal. Do I need to bring him to the vet for this? And what could be wrong? He is showing no other symptoms other than those.

You are describing head trauma. It sounds like he was hit hard enough in the head and face to have concussion symptoms. He may have fractured bones in his face or nasal sinuses. The blood indicates trauma to his nose which you are seeing by the swelling. This could be inflammation or something is broken. Sneezing is a normal response to inflammation/pain/irritation in the nasal cavity or sinuses. If the bleeding continues, he acts abnormal or extra sleepy, wont' eat or play then he needs a Vet exam. Otherwise you can watch the swelling and sneezing. If there is no improvement by Monday in the swelling he should be seen.

I would be concerned due to the swelling that there may be an infection (abscess) or other underlying issue that would need to be addressed. I would recommend she be evaluated by her regular veterinarian to determine the underlying cause of her swelling, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, needle aspirate), and start any treatment that she may need (antibiotics, anti-inflammatories). Kitten fell on concrete, has nosebleed. Should I be concerned?

Hi. I'm sorry to hear about your kitten. Just watch her for any signs of continued nose bleed, decrease in appetite, lethargy, facial swelling, change in mentation, wobbly when walking. If she acts normal, is eating, drinking, interacting the same without any problems most likely she is going to be fine. Kittens are very resilient but it is always good to check when these sorts of accidents happen. Best of luck!

Kitten URI: Bloody nasal discharge when sneezing. Is it an emergency?

Is it a lot of blood or just a drop? if it is a lot of blood I recommend emergency. If it is a drop and only happened once and he is acting ok then you can wait. There are veterinarians typically open on Saturday that are not emergency hospitals. I would talk with your veterinarian about a possible polyp if he consistently is having respiratory issues. My cat's sneezing for weeks, nose bleeding. When to see a vet?

Since this has bene going on for a while, I would get it checked by your vet as soon as possible. It could be a cold, he could have sneezed some particle of foreign material up into his nasal cavity, he could have a polyp in his nose, there's no way to know for sure without an exam with your vet. The greenish tinge to the discharge may mean he already has an infection going on. Your vet will do an exam, possibly lab work and/or x-rays to determine what's going on and based on these results will be better able to tell you what's wrong and give you treatment options.

Ideally, the kitten should be physically examined by a veterinarian to diagnose any other injuries. If it is a minor bleed, it should stop with some gentle pressure. If there is internal injury, that can be addressed by the veterinarian after the exam. Monitor for lethargy, ataxia (wobbly gait), difficulty breathing, pale gums, uneven pupils or bleeding from the ears or anywhere else.

Why does my kitten have nosebleeds, painful bump, and balance issues?

Nose bleeds, balance issues and a growth on the nose are very worrisome signs that should be examined by your vet ASAP. Infections, systemic illness, neurologic issues, toxicity, something stuck in the nasal cavity, growths, tumors, etc can all be possible causes which would benefit from a complete exam. Your vet may recommend additional tests such as taking a sample of any growths, bloodwork, and looking in the nose itself to try and find the cause.

The nose doesn't look broken, it's probably just soft tissue injury, i would recommend waiting 3-4 days, i would expect seeing some sort of improvement by then. if the condition remains the same- take her to the vet to get it checked.
