My kitten's eyes are always goopy. What can I do at home to help?

Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor baby Panther! Panther likely has a viral infection or upper respiratory infection and now a secondary bacterial infection in his eyes. The only thing I can tell you to do at home is to gently warm compress his eyes. He sadly needs to see a Vet for antibiotic ointment in the eye. Due to the sensitivity of the eye, a special ointment or drop that is safe for the eye needs to be used. Cats are especially sensitive to certain eye medications. It shouldn't be too expensive to have him seen by a Vet. Also a lot of SPCAs have a low cost Veterinary clinic. I wish you the best and a speedy recovery for Panther!

Cats often squint their eyes, especially if they are getting sleepy and about to nap. Now if you notice any redness of the white part of her eye, eye discharge (usually yellow green) or puffiness of her eyes, then I would get concerned about conjunctivitis and then eye drops would have to be prescribed by your vet. It looks like Kuon has an eye infection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for him at home other than keeping the eye clean and wiping away any discharge. You will need to get antibiotic ointment from a veterinarian to help your kitten get better. There is no other way to get an antibiotic.

The most common cause of swollen conjunctiva and raised third eye lids are viral infections, most commonly feline herpes. We can only treat the secondary bacterial infections associated with the viral infection. Some cats are chronically affected by herpes, while others have flare ups with stress. Marie should see a Vet to be sure there are no scratches on her eye and to have a safe antibiotic eye ointment prescribed. You can try calling your local SPCA to see if they offer a low cost Veterinary Clinic. I hope this helps and I wish Marie a speedy recovery!

I can see excessive discharge in the right eye and the eye is not as open as the left one. These signs indicate something abnormal and as always with eyes I would recommend to have the eye examined by a vet. The vet will examine the different parts of the eye and make sure no foreign material present as well as stain the eye to evaluate the cornea. I wouldn't worry too much. If she is tolerating you wiping it, just clean it as needed with with a warm wet cotton ball. If she is pawing at her eyes or rubbing her face on the ground, or seems to have any other issue going on, call your vet and get her in for an exam.
