My kitten's genitals look painful. Does it need a vet urgently?

Poor kitten! I agree with you that this is concerning - in a tiny newborn kitten like this, a minor wound can cause internal injuries easily because they are so small and fragile. In addition, I would worry about this wound becoming infected and causing additional problems because of this. I would recommend taking the kitten to a veterinarian right away for an exam. Your vet can palpate the abdomen and may also take x-rays or do other testing if needed to determine if there are any serious problems. He/she can also prescribe an antibiotic to prevent infection of the wound.

This area is very inflammed and looks sore. I recommend a veterinary exam to deworm her and check this area. She may need medication to soothe the skin and they can check to make sure her rectal opening is normal. It’s to hard to tell from just the photo. Cute kitten! I am sorry to hear that Boba Fett isn’t feeling well. The area in the picture looks like she has an injury to the skin. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. So sorry the Sushi is having this issue. It is very hard to tell from the photo exactly what is going on. What I think I can see is that the area is not overly red or swollen. If that is the case and he is eating and drinking and acting normally I would not be concerned at this point. I would only be worried if the area gets swollen or if he starts to feel sick (not eating, extreme lethargy, vomiting, etc). You are welcome to apply a thin layer of Neosporin to that area twice a day until healed. If not real resolution of the this wound after a week then I would say he needs to see your vet. It is hard to say exactly what it may be sight unseen (can't get a good look or feel from the picture), I can certainly offer a few possibilities. It may be just a scab from playing rough or bumping into something. It also could be a small abscess from one of her vaccines she received previously-that sometimes can happen and is quite common. Another possibility would be a bite wound from another cat or a fungal or bacterial infection. If the lesion feels like little millet seeds, it could be a flea allergy (especially if she is not receiving a month to month flea preventative). If it gets worse or does not improve in a few days, I would bring her into her primary care veterinarian an exam and diagnostic testing. Best wishes to you and Biscuit!

That area is very infected and inflamed. There is not much you can do at home except give him a bath and keep it clean and dry. Keep the other kittens away so it can be spread or they can't make it worse A vet will have to examine how deeps those go and some antibiotics.
