My kitten has fleas and is on meds. Is it safe to use flea drops?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1.5 lbs

I recently got a kitten and took her to the vet for an abscess and ringworm..Turns out she also has fleas. She's taking Clavamox, and a topical ointment for ringworm already. Would it hurt her to put flea drops on?

It should be fine to apply flea medication. Flea medication is very different from the other medications and I don't know of a flea medication that would interact negatively with the antibiotics and topical medication. However, I am hesitant to fully recommend applying the flea treatment without your vet's recommendation, because there may be a reason why they didn't already recommend it. I recommend calling your vet to make sure this is OK before applying the medication. They should be happy to answer a quick question like this.

I hope that helps and Freddy gets better soon.
