By far the most common cause of corneal ulcers is herpesvirus; so although antibiotic drops are usually indicated to treat secondary bacterial infections or prevent infection, Kit might not be improving because she has viral eye disease. Some vets will try oral antiviral medication or topical antiviral drops. Herpesvirus can be very difficult to treat and it never goes away completely. You may want to ask about referral to an ophthalmologist for the best treatment.

This may be a virus and not a bacterial infection. If that's the case antibiotics will not help and the virus needs to run its course which can take up to two weeks. As long as she isn't getting worse, running a fever and is eating I would keep monitoring her. Poor Daisy! It can take the eye a little time to respond to the ointment, and sometimes it will get worse before better. I would apply the ointment 3 times a day if it is this bad. If the eye does not start to settle, or you notice cloudiness or redness on the eyeball itself, I would take her back to the vet as sometimes when the eye is sore they can scratch it and cause an ulcer on the eye itself, this can be serious.

Poor kittens! Eye infections can be viral or bacterial. Unfortunately you’re not likely to clear an eye infection with at home care. Just like with humans, these guys require antibiotic eyedrops which you will need to get from the veterinarian. I recommend to call your clinic and make an appointment ideally today. Eye infections in young kittens can become serious and cause permanent damage to the corneas. Bring the whole litter and the mother. Certainly cleaning off the teats and the rest of the environment will help but all the kittens have been exposed at this point. Do not use that for the eye infection! It will not work. If she has an eye infection, she has to see a vet. Vets are considered essential services so you can take that kitten into the vet.
