Why is my kitten crying, walking low, and her back legs hurt?

Poor Gracie! She could have fallen and broken her leg. She also could strained or torn a ligament. It's quite serious that she isn't walking on it and won't let you touch it. I would take her into a vet immediately for a lameness exam and x-rays. These tests will help diagnose what is causing this problem so she can be treated. In young kittens, it's important to get these problems checked out promptly to prevent any disruption to normal growth. This will also be very painful to her, and the vet can give her pain medications. Please do not give her any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. Only the vet can prescribe safe ones. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I am thinking that she may be in heat? 6 months is about average for a cats first heat. The cat can cry and kind of army crawl around. They also stick their hind end in the air and when you tap their lower back they cry and stick up their hind end. If this isn't what she is doing please repost with specifics. I hope this helps!

If you think Tinkerbell is having back leg problems and she appears to be in pain, I am concerned that this could be what we call a Saddle Thrombus. This is a condition in which a clot breaks free and travels through the aorta down to the saddle (where the femoral arteries branch off of the aorta). This causes paralysis and severe pain. This is typically related to heart disease. I would recommend having Tinkerbell examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Poor kitten! Trouble with defecation and walking usually means there is a problem with the anatomy of the hind end (birth defect), a neurologic problem, or an injury to the nerves and muscles of that area. There are no over-the-counter pain medications that are safe to give a kitten. It is difficult to give advise for comforting him without knowing the cause of the problem. Allow him to be in the position that is most comfortable for him until you can take him to the vet. I hope he feels better soon!

If she is experiencing a lot of pain than she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. She may be just having some constipation issues but a vet could check to make sure she doesn't have a congenital malformation and/or problems with her hips or pelvis. If it is just constipation than you could add a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to her diet to increase the fiber and see if that helps.

It could be possible that Panda is in heat causing these symptoms you are seeing displayed. In the spring time, cats cycle quickly, and they go out of heat for a time period as short as one to two weeks. It could be she is going in and out of heat. Of course because I can't see her in person, I can't say this for certain, and there is a possibility that she may have pain in her back or hips causing this behavior. To be safe, I do think a visit with the vet is best just to make sure everything is ok. In my opinion, it's better to pay the fee to see a find and find nothing wrong, than not visit the vet and have it be something serious. Best of luck!
