My kitten has bloody diarrhea & licks his anal area. What to do?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | 5 months and 19 days old | 2.75 lbs

i have a male Persian kitten 5 months old, he is having diarrhea with bloody mucus in stool. he had been given deworming medicine 2 weeks back , he keep licking his anal area. apart for that he is very active.

It sounds as Jasper is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor kitties. It sounds like these kitties likely have an intestinal bug causing their symptoms. I would visit your vet to have their stools tested first to determine what bug is present, and then they can get prescribed the appropriate dewormer. They may also need to do a short course of antibiotics to get the gut flora back to normal, especially if you are seeing them straining (colitis). I hope that your little ones feel better soon! Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens
