Why does my kitten bite my face and wake me up? Will he calm down?

It sounds like Bandit may be exhibiting normal playful kitten behavior. I would try to redirect him with fun toys (if you haven't found one he likes yet there are a wide variety at hte pet store, from laser pointers to stuffed toys with feathers and others with catnip inside) he might enjoy to keep him away from your face. If you have long hair then keeping your hair up/out of your face may be helpful for a time as well. If he persists in trying to get your face despite you offering him other things to play with then get up and move away from him and do not interact with him, as he wants interaction from you and even if you are telling him no or pushing him away, he will consider this a reaction and reinforcement for the behavior.

She’s just a playful kitten. I recommend playing with her during the day so she sleeps at night. With a bitey kitten I play with a toy on a string, a ball for her to chase or a laser pointer. I wouldn’t discipline her for biting since that may result in more biting. Feed her a wet food meal just before bed and that will keep her full so she doesn’t wake you up to get food. Aggression is usually associated with negative behaviors such as hissing, growling, swatting, etc. What you are describing sounds more like normal kitten playfulness, if Bella is just pouncing, nipping, or hopping around. Keeping her out of your room if she is too excitable can help keep her form hopping on you when you are trying to sleep. A pheromone diffuser such as Comfort Zone can also help her to relax and settle down some. Making sure she has plenty of toys to play with, including things you can safely play with together such as a feather on a stick or a laser pointer can help get out some of that energy without having her bite you or scratch your hands. If she becomes too excited, getting up and walking away/ignoring her until she has calmed down again can help teach her that the fun ends when she gets too excited. If she is calm and quiet, rewarding her with a treat, a play session or some attention can help teach her that's the behavior you like. If she is actually showing aggression, IE biting hard, hissing, ears pinned, low growling, swatting, etc, then I would highly recommend seeking out a trainer or behaviorist in person to address the issue and try to find the cause such as stress or fear.

Bandit is a very young kitten and biting is how kittens tend to explore the world. The best thing to do is to just stop playing and walk away when he gets too excited, and refuse to interact until he has calmed down. Signs this is incoming/Bandit is getting over stimulated can include rapid tail flicking, pinned ears, stiff body, large pupils, etc. Once calm, play can resume with a toy that he can either bite on or chase, or something such as a laser pointer or teaser toy that he can pounce without coming into contact with your hand. Luckily, over time, kittens will settle down and chew on things less, and by not allowing him to nibble on you, will learn that it is appropriate to chew on other things instead.

In reality, unless what you are describing is truly a vicious attack (obviously I am not there to see it), a young cat exhibiting this kind of behavior is simply trying to play. When Abigail attempts to engage in this type of activity, you have a couple of different choices on how to address it. You can simply get up and walk away completely disengaging from the activity. Do not try to punish or reprimand as this sort of training method simply doesn't work at all in cats. The other thing you can try is instead of walking away, you can try to play with your cat in another way. Use toys, strings, balls, whatever makes Abigail the happiest. Hopefully this takes her mind off of your arms and feet and on the item you are wielding. If you truly feel there is an actual behavior problem that is continuing as she gets older, this would be something to address with positive reinforcement training and/or assistance of a professional. It sounds like you have your hands full! For better or for worse, this is typical kitten behavior. He will mellow out as he grows up, although he may always have a rambunctious personality. For right now, schedule some time every day to play with him using a laser pointer, balls, feathers on a string, or any other toys he loves. Aim for 10 minutes three times a day. Try your best not to scream and move quickly when he runs underfoot because he will think it's a game and do it more. If he's an only animal, instead of feeding him in a bowl a few times a day, hide kibble around your home for him to hunt - start really small with this to make sure he gets the idea. I strongly recommend for her sake that she invests in a large crate to confine him to when she is sleeping - provide food, water a litter tray and cosy bed so he can settle comfortably on his own.
