My kitten bites me constantly. How do I make him stop permanently?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Longhair | Male | neutered | 3 months and 14 days old

Bandit constanly bites me and i don't know how to make him stop. I have tried everything I can think of : putting him on the floor and ignoring him, hissing like an angry cat, yelling ow and moving my hands away, giving him a pinch on the ear and giving his nose a tap. Nothing works. What can I do to stop bandit biting permanently?

Bandit is a very young kitten and biting is how kittens tend to explore the world. The best thing to do is to just stop playing and walk away when he gets too excited, and refuse to interact until he has calmed down. Signs this is incoming/Bandit is getting over stimulated can include rapid tail flicking, pinned ears, stiff body, large pupils, etc. Once calm, play can resume with a toy that he can either bite on or chase, or something such as a laser pointer or teaser toy that he can pounce without coming into contact with your hand. Luckily, over time, kittens will settle down and chew on things less, and by not allowing him to nibble on you, will learn that it is appropriate to chew on other things instead.
