My kitten bites me constantly. How do I make him stop permanently?

It sounds like Bandit may be exhibiting normal playful kitten behavior. I would try to redirect him with fun toys (if you haven't found one he likes yet there are a wide variety at hte pet store, from laser pointers to stuffed toys with feathers and others with catnip inside) he might enjoy to keep him away from your face. If you have long hair then keeping your hair up/out of your face may be helpful for a time as well. If he persists in trying to get your face despite you offering him other things to play with then get up and move away from him and do not interact with him, as he wants interaction from you and even if you are telling him no or pushing him away, he will consider this a reaction and reinforcement for the behavior.

A stern and forceful "No" should get him to stop biting. Once he does, offer an appropriate item or toy for him to bite and chew. Praise and rewards him consistently when he complies. If he continues to bite, immediately stop all interaction until he settles down. This may include walking away from him or putting him in another room. Be firm and be consistent.

If your kitten does start attacking/biting your hand then give a sharp/quick "no" and walk away, removing yourself completely. This way the kitten realizes that biting leads to no interaction with you. It can take a good deal of time and persistence but it will pay off in the end.

These are likely love bites, and play behavior. She is also in the middle of teething (her permanent teeth coming in) and the biting may relieve some of the uncomfortable feeling involved. If you punish her for doing this she will only react aggressively. The best way is to just ignore it, keep the door to the bathroom shut when you take a shower, and stop petting her as soon as she nibbles. Eventually she will make the connection "if I nibble, she stops petting me".... This should cease in time.

Kittens learn through play biting and it is part of our role as pet parents to help them learn limits. I would not attempt negative reinforcement such as striking Baxster or speaking harshly as this will potentially create more serious behaviour issues such as anxiety and fear-aggression. Try some calm corrections and positive reinforcement. If Baxster bites you, simply say in a calm voice "no" and stop interacting with him for a few moments. This over time will teach him that biting is not a desired form of play. Also try reinforcing him as he starts to play in a good way by not biting, and giver her a small training treat. If Baxster does manage to bite hard enough to break the skin be careful of a possible infection. Monitor your wound for heat. Swelling, or discharge. Make an appointment with your doctor if this occurs. If you are struggling with the biting after a couple of weeks of the above suggested training methods, potentially a few sessions with a behaviourist. Though these behaviours usually diminish naturally as kittens age. Other games which may be fun with Baxster, and can be used to deflect unwanted behaviours are, hide and go seek either with you and another person, or you hide his toys and she has to find them. If he becomes too energetic, simply getting up and walking away until he calms down can teach him that being too rough ends the fun.
