My 3-month-old kitten has a big stomach and vomits blood. What to do?

Sorry to hear this. I'm sure this must be very frustrating and difficult to deal with. Unfortunately, I do recommend that Poppy goes back to the vet. Throwing up blood is very concerning, because this indicates that she is losing blood through her gastrointestinal tract, which can lead to anemia (low blood count). Kittens don't have much to lose, so it's imperative that she be evaluated and treated as soon as possible. I understand that it's difficult to keep taking Poppy back and forth to the vet. I also wouldn't have the time to do this during normal business hours. You may consider having her hospitalized until she gets better. You can ask your vet about this. Most vet clinics will offer for clients to drop their pet off and hospitalize them. This will be a bit more expensive, but may be worthwhile considering that she will likely need a few visits to the vet until the problem is completely taken care of. It certainly sounds as though Zaytoune isn't feeling well! At 3.5 weeks old, we need to be sure kittens are eating every few hours to keep their blood glucose (sugar) levels adequate. If blood glucose becomes too low, animals can become lethargic and even begin to seizure in severe cases. Possible causes of vomiting could include gastrointestinal upset from his medication, diet change, a virus, etc. Since he is so young and not keeping milk or food down, I would recommend taking him to an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible to assure that his blood glucose levels are appropriate.

Have you changed any of her food ? If so, it could just be the diet change as her tummy is still quite delicate and immature and it can take time and a few tummy upsets to get used to all the food ingredients. If no food has been changed, then I wonder if Pompom has been treated for worms. All kittens need to be treated for worms regularly, using a safe product dosed for her weight. You will have to take her to see a vet to get the right product for her. With regards to her food, just remember to change her diet gradually.

It sounds as Selina is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it might not be related to the adult food she ate, the blood and complete lack of appetite is very worrying. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

I recommend getting your cat seen by your vet or an emergency vet right away. Cats need to eat, if they go more than a few days without eating they can develop serious liver problems which can be fatal. Continuous vomiting for so many hours is very exhausting and dehydrating, so your kitten likely needs some medical intervention to get better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and can better advise you about treatment options.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At almost 9 weeks old feeding her that small of an amount that frequently is not needed. I think feeding her 3 times a day until 4 months old is fine then after that twice daily. At this age she should have started vaccines and had her stool checked for parasites. A big belly can occur after eating (but goes down), from intestinal parasites and if there is abnormal fluid in the belly (from FIP). If Noushmc hasn't been to the Vet she should be seen to start her routine care. I hope this helps and I wish you the best!
