My 6-month-old kitten had a seizure. Why is he still acting strange?

My 6 month old kitty had a seizure Thursday it only lasted a minute but it’s been almost a week and he’s still not acting like normal

Oh dear! Poor Sterling. Seizures are definitely not normal, especially in a kitten this young - this could be caused by a neurologic disease like FIP (feline infectious peritonitis), toxoplasmosis, a liver shunt, or some type of toxicity. I would definitely recommend taking him to the vet, especially since he's still acting abnormal a week later. Your veterinarian can do a full neurologic exam and may also recommend lab work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.

This sounds like seizure activity. I strongly suggest you get her to a vet for an exam and some blood testing. I recommend you video tape one of these episodes so you can show the vet as she may not be exhibiting the symptoms during the exam. Seizures in cats are very serious (especially with her being so young) so I don't suggest you wait too long before seeking treatment especially since her seizures may be due to a congenital problem secondary to inbreeding.

Hi. If your pet had a seizure, I would get him to your veterinarian or ER as soon as you can. Especially if she has another. With her being young, it could be low glucose, a congenital neurological condition, or other potential neurologic causes. Hope she does well.

Poor kitty. If her bloodwork is normal then that is unfortunately not a good indicator and in such a young kitty we have to consider the high possibility that this indicates a brain or spinal cord lesion. Some kind of trauma could have also occured to cause these seizures. IT is best to put Capser on anti-seizure medication right away to hopefully manage these better. If the seizures continue to happen at this frequency, then permanent brain damage is likely to occur. A referral to a neurologist should also be considered. My cat had seizure-like symptoms, but vet tests were normal. Why?

He could have this behavior from an ear infection, head injury, low blood sugar or epilepsy. If Sherlock is back to normal then it was a seizure, if he's still having these problems and the blood work was normal I'm concerned about a serious neurological problem. My kitten had a seizure and is lethargic. What should I do now?

If she had what appeared to be a seizure, I would place a small amount of karo syrup on the gums and get her seen right away as her sugar level may be low. This could easily cause the seizures with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Sick kittens oftentimes do not eat enough and will secondarily get hypoglycemia. Why is my 2-week-old kitten walking wobbly and losing head control?

It's definitely not normal. I would recommend that you have the kitten checked out by a vet. There could be something congenital (such as a brain issue) or an infection causing these weird episodes. A complete physical and neurologic exam may shed some light as to the cause, or the vet may recommend bloodwork to get an answer.

My weak kitten has odd movements. Is it a seizure? Mom died.

It sounds like you are describing cerebellar hypoplasia. You can find videos on YouTube to see if it looks similar. Now, if the mom died and had neurological symptoms as well, you need to be concerned about the possibility of rabies. Remember, rabies is a FATAL disease so if I would strongly suggest you take the kitten to a vet for an exam and discuss with them the situation with the mother so the appropriate steps can be taken.

My 11-year-old cat had a seizure and now freezes. What's wrong?

It is possible that Todd was having a seizure. Due to his age I would recommend taking him to a vet for an exam. Older cats can develop disease that might predispose them to seizures like heart disease, hyperthyroidism, liver disease and neurologic disease. The vet will complete an exam and than most likely recommend some blood work to tell for underlying disease.
