My injured cat can't walk, struggles to pee/poop. Will she recover?

Hi and thanks for posting. Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear this. It is very hard to say exactly what is going on without examining Kitty first. Kitty may have endured some trauma to her bones or ligaments or perhaps internal organ damage. If she is laying down more frequently and had or is current experiencing trouble walking, she is likely in some pain/discomfort and my best advice would be to take her to see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam, x-rays and/or blood work to get a definitive diagnosis. She must be fully assessed by a vet, likely including spinal/pelvic x-rays to assess the severity of her injuries (including nerve damage) and guide the most appropriate treatment and likely recovery. Please have her seen by a vet urgently

Sounds like she may have sustained damage to the nerves that go to the rectum and therefore, she can't hold her bowels. This is called fecal incontinence. I cannot tell you what the cost of treatment would be because I don't really know what is going on with her without examining her myself. Depending on what your vet finds on the exam they may want to x-ray her pelvis/hind legs/lower spine area to see if there is any fractures or dislocations. Sometimes the animal appears to be walking normally but there is still something wrong underlying. The way she is sitting in that one photo makes me think there is something wrong in the hind end area.... I would guess you are looking at $150-$200 minimum. I cannot diagnose over the internet nor do I have any idea what vets charge for services in your area so you will just have to get the examination done first and go from there with your vet. I am very sorry Tom is so sick. I would recommend continue the medication your current vet gave you. However if Tom is not urinating a few times a day and defecating daily I would recommend taking him back to be re checked. Also it is important he eats and drinks daily. You might need to take the water and food to him directly

Poor cat! If there is no deep pain present in the back legs then chances are kidding you won't regain function unfortunately. We use the pain is an indicator whether the pet will walk again. However if deep pain is present (kitty moves twitches or flinches when you pinch the back toes), then there is a chance that Katie can regain function of the limbs. However you won't know the extent of the injury without an x-ray. And without an x-ray he won't really know what treatment kitty needs. I unfortunately don't see a good solution here without proper diagnostics. Kittie may be a lost cause at this point without proper medical care for such a traumatic injury like this which undoubtedly involves the spinal cord and/or pelvis. I would highly consider Humane euthanasia for this kittie because the outcome looks bleak.

She may have injured herself when she jumped from the balcony. Also is she was bred the male may have bitten and scratched her which could cause an infection. Either of these things could cause her symptoms but regardless it sounds like she needs veterinary care right away. They will examine her and perhaps take an X-ray to check her rear legs and check her for a fever. When they know the exact problem then they will give her the appropriate treatment. Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It sounds as if Chloe may be having trouble with vision as well? Often times when we see patients hugging close to walls and having trouble negotiating surroundings it's either their vision is impaired or they have severe spatial perception defects (think vertigo). It is possible that anesthesia can affect balance but it is normally seen pretty soon after a surgical process and not so far out. If she is having actual weakness as a problem with ambulation (walking) this will require a more in depth exam than we can provide online. Likely she will need a neurological work up with labs and x rays to find the source or her problem. For now I think you are doing everything correctly-keep her calm and in a small contained space (like a bathroom) to make her feel more secure for the time being. It is great that she is eating and drinking and having normal bathroom habits-these are positive signs. It sounds as if you are very good kitty parents. Just let her stay close to you if it helps and hopefully you will have some more in depth answers soon. My best to all of you.
