My cat jumped from balcony, depressed, can't walk, won't eat. Help!

Oh dear, poor Meow! Since she is not moving, eating or drinking, my main concern is that she has experienced significant trauma in her travels, either from a long fall or being hit by a car. These traumatic events can cause major head trauma, rib fractures, or internal injuries that can be quite severe and painful. At this point, Meow needs to go to an emergency vet immediately for evaluation and treatment. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Hi there and thanks for posting. Oh dear, I am so sorry to hear Kitty was lost for a few days. That had to be very stressful. Also, I am sorry to hear she came back with a few medical issues. It is hard to say what exactly is going on with Kitty without examining Kitty first, but from your description it seems like Kitty may have injured her pelvis, spine, or rear limbs that may be causing her to not urinate properly or defecate as it may be painful for her or she has some neurological deficits disabling her to have control of her bladder. She could also have a urinary tract infection causing the straining to urinate as well. I would recommend visiting a veterinarian clinic soon so she can get some x-rays and a neurological exam in addition to a regular physical exam. They may take a urine sample to check for an infection. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Kitty.

I would absolutely 100% take Nimby into the emergency vet right away. Hopefully it’s nothing more than some muscle soreness from her Olympic jumping event and the adrenaline wearing off. However, I have seen cases like this where there is trauma to the spleen, etc. causing bleeding into the abdomen and shock. These cases can require IV fluids, blood transfusions or even emergency surgery in some cases. Because of this, I’d head in to get Nimby a good physical exam, and blood pressure check and X-rays if needed. (PS I’ve seen cats with broken bones who do not show any sign of pain on physical exam.) Absolutely do NOT give Nimby ANY over the counter pain medication. NONE are considered safe for cats and Tylenol can be lethal. Best of luck to you and Nimby!

Wow, I’m glad she is walking fine and using the box. You’re very lucky she wasn’t more injured. I expect she is bruised and painful. I recommend keeping her quiet and monitoring her to make sure she’s eating, drinking and walking normally. There is no safe over the counter pain medication for cats. If she’s still painful or becomes worse I recommend a veterinary exam. They can give a safe prescription medication for pain in cats if needed. Cats generally heal well on their on their own given time and rest. That was a bad fall though so please to take her in right away if you see a medical problem develop. He may have injured himself jumping down and should be seen by your vet right away with those symptoms. He may have pinched a nerve or fractured something, though not being painful makes this less likely. The only way to know for sure is to get him seen by your vet or at an emergency clinic right away. Your vet will do an exam and x-rays, possibly other imaging or diagnostics as their findings call for. Based on these results, they will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to treat it.

Kitty may have endured some trauma to her bones or ligaments or perhaps internal organ damage. If she is laying down more frequently and had or is current experiencing trouble walking, she is likely in some pain/discomfort and my best advice would be to take her to see a veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam, x-rays and/or blood work to get a definitive diagnosis. Based on the information you have provided, and the attached pictures, I am also very concerned that Sprinkles may have sustained significant trauma, causing her to be non-weightbearing lame on her left hind leg. Whether she was hit by a car or potentially fell and injured her leg, it sounds like she is in a significant amount of pain. She also looks like she has abraded skin (a wound) on that leg as well, which is at risk of becoming infected. I recommend having her seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible to have her injuries addressed. He/she will perform a full physical exam to localize her pain and determine if she has other, more life-threatening injuries such as damage to her chest or abdomen. X-rays may be indicated if a fracture is suspected. Ultimately, pain medication and antibiotics can be prescribed to help ease her pain and prevent infection. Importantly, NEVER give pain medication that is intended for humans to your pet, as these can be fatally toxic. I hope this is helpful!
