Is my cat a Maine Coon? He has a broad skull and a seasonal coat.

Wow....he is totally adorable!!! He is larger than the average 6 month old kitten. At this age, the average kitten is usually 4-6 pounds. He does appear to have a long body and also some longer hair. These are characteristics of Maine Coone. It is certainly possible that he has Maine Coone genes...or he is just a very big domestic cat. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

Tigger is a very handsome boy! Based on his appearance and his weight of 9 pounds, I would say that he is not a purebred Maine Coon. Maine Coons are quite large cats and have a shaggy coat. Tigger looks like he has a short coat, which is not characteristic of a Maine Coon. Based on the pictures you have provided, he looks like a domestic shorthair to me. Wow! Coco is a beautiful cat! Its very likely that Coco has a few different breeds in her mix but my guess with those ear tuffs is that she has Maine Coon in there. She also has a triangular head so that makes me believe that Siamese is likely there are well. A company called Wisdom Health is developing a breed analysis genetic test for cats. Hi! Mars is super cute! As I am sure you are aware Maine Coon's are in general large cats. With that said, large does not equate overweight. It's difficult to assess ideal body condition from simply looking, you will need to put your hands on Mars. Ideally, what you want is to be able to see a bit of a wait taper behind his rib cage. You want to be able feel his ribs through a layer of fat. You shouldn't be able to count the ribs and they should also not be buried under so many layers of fat that you cannot feel them at all. It does look like Mu has mange and even possibly a severe ringworm fungal skin infection as well. The eyes being semi-closed may be due to the mange/ringworm infection of the eyelids causing swelling/discomfort or he may also have an eye infection/conjunctivitis as well. Topical monthly flea products for cats called Revolution or Paradyne are often effective against sarcoptic mange and would be easy enough to apply to Mu. Ringworm lesions are usually circular areas of hairloss but can progress to covering large stretches of skin and look similar to how Mu looks in the pictures. Both diseases can be transmissible to humans and Mu is likely not rabies vaccinated so I would recommend avoiding handling/touching him without heavy gloves. If you are able to bring him to a local veterinarian or shelter, they may be able to provide Revolution, vaccinate him against rabies, provide a topical ophthalmic antibiotic ointment if indicated and look more closely in his mouth, as well as perform diagnostics to rule out a severe ringworm infection.
