Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There isn't an answer to that question in terms of a specific time, as it depends on each individual pet! I think it's a great idea for cats who want to enjoy the outside in a safe way; I would recommend by starting to have Oreo wear a harness around the house to get her used to wearing it, then attach her leash while in the house and allow her to adjust to its weight. Finally, then I'd take her outside for an adjustment to being in the yard on it. Some cats progress in a couple weeks, and others can take a little longer. Good luck!

Once he is comfortable with the harness than you can attach the leash and let him drag it around the house while you supervise. Once he feels comfortable dragging the leash than you can hold the leash and follow him around. After that, carry him outside and try him in the backyard. My dog won't wear her new harness. How do I get her comfortable?

Hello. The best thing to do is start slow & put the harness on for a few minutes 2-3 times a day. Reward her with many treats & lots of petting to calm her. Then attach a leash & just let her drag it around for a few days. Once she seems comfortable, ask her to follow or approach you while gently pulling on the leash. I always have a tasty treat in my hand to encourage her. With just a little time & patience, all dogs will get used to being on a leash & harness. Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats, with a bit of work, can be taught to walk on a leash ( harness ). The best would be never to let your cat outdoors as this increases the chances of run ins with cars, dogs & other cats. But once a cat is comfortable in a home, they very rarely leave, unless something happens. Make sure Luna is spayed, & consider placing a microchip in her. That way, if she does slip off, any veterinarian or shelter can scan her & get her back home to you quickly. Hope this helps. Take care.

Can cats go for walks outside? What leash or harness is best?

Yes. Cats can go for walks. Some cats do very well and some cats do not. Get Honey adjusted to the harness inside first, then introduce her to the outside. Cats should wear a harness. Pet stores sell harnesses and light leashed for cats. Make sure to fit it properly so she cannot escape. Please feel free to post any additional questions.
