How to give liquid medicine to my cat without it entering lungs?

Thank you for more information about Moon. If he has been coughing and you are concerned that the medication has gone down his lungs, yes, I would take him into a vet. It could cause aspiration pneumonia if it did go down his lungs. If Moon is eating, drinking, and is otherwise normal, you can wait until the morning to have him seen by a vet. If he isn't eating or drinking, and/or is very lethargic, have him seen by an ER vet now. Best of luck.

It is possible she may have aspirated a small amount into her lungs. Monitor for continued coughing, sneezing, nasal discharge or lethargy. If enough was aspirated, the potential for pneumonia exists. A small syringe should be used instead of a spoon. You can slowly squirt the syrup in the side of her mouth and allow time for swallowing to prevent aspiration.

Cats can sometimes cough after being given a med, especially if giving it is stressful for them or if it's irritating their throat. If Sweetie is more comfortable taking the same amount via dropper, and it less stressful for her, you can administer the meds that way. It is likely the syringe was suggested so she doesn't have to taste the medication (it can be bitter) since the syringe will place it further back in the throat, and so it is faster to give.

Hello. Foaming is not unusual when cats taste something they really do not like, but most likely most of the medication did go down. The problem is how much is Sweetie going to fight you at the next dose, & then the next one after that. I still prefer pills, as depending on the size, most are pretty tiny, or tablets can be formulated into tasty treats. I have also found that a lot of cats really love the taste of an product called Churu, by INABA. It is a lickable treat that makes it super simple to hide a small pill in it. For now, you can refrigerate the prednisolone you do have because making it cold often helps to disguise the nasty flavor some. Hope this all helps. Hi, Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the cat burrito method (wrapping in a blanket) isn't working you can try putting the liquid medication in canned cat food. Put it in a small amount then feed him the rest. Otherwise make sure he is really wrapped tightly and all legs are wrapped up and the towel is to the back of his head it doing the towel method. You could also ask the vet for a pill or injectable form of the medication if available. Good luck

Hi there. Usually inhalation would not cause fluid in the lungs, but I would recommend having Baby seen by your vet if you suspect any lung issues. These can be progressive and get worse rapidly, so if you're able to have Baby checked today that would be a good idea. If the anti-diarrhea medication is measured with a syringe, you can give it directly into Monday's mouth - squirt it into his cheek while tilting his nose upwards (so gravity helps direct the medication into the back of his throat to be swallowed). Similarly, probiotics can be mixed in with a little water or broth, then drawn up and given orally via the syringe.
