My cat's breathing sounds like fluid. Could he have inhaled medicine?

Cats can be very dramatic with liquid medication and some may have gotten up her nose. Aspirating in to the lungs would be more serious. As long as she only sounds congested in her throat/nose area she should be ok. Watch for loss of appetite, lethargy or yellow-green discharge from the nose. If any of those symptoms occur she should see your Vet. Have a great day!

It is always hard to look at x-rays on a computer screen like this. I am not seeing clear fluid, but I can't be certain. Marbocyl is a type of antibiotic that can be used with bacterial pneumonia. Other causes of increased respiratory rate are being hot (though this isn't the most common cause), infection (bacterial and viral), heart disease (needs a heart ultrasound), asthma, pain, anemia, kidney disease, among others. If the antibiotics do not show improvement in another day or two, I would take Leo back to the vet for additional testing (including other views of the chest x-rays).

Possible causes are congestive heart failure, pleural effusion (from heart failure, infection, cancer, chyle, blood) or cancer. Has your Vet determined the cause. Cats in heart failure can do well once stable but will need to be on life long medications. Only you know what is best for Spas and your family. If he doesn't start improving where he doesn't need oxygen and is breathing normally with in 2-3 days then it is reasonable to think about stopping. If he responds and is back to normal I would treat him until he has another crisis and then consider stopping. I hope this helps and I wish you and Spas the best!

This could certainly be due to asthma which is not treated with antibiotics but rather it is treated with steroids and other medications. Since he has not improved, I recommend that you have Oscar reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Inflammation or infection can cause changes to the way an animal breathes as well as something stuck in the airway. If Boo is coughing and having trouble breathing, he may have an upper respiratory infection or his symptoms may be caused by another medical condition such as feline asthma. Foul smelling saliva can be related to an oral infection such as a tooth infection or can be related to an upper respiratory infection. I would recommend Boo see his primary care veterinarian for an exam to help diagnose Boo's condition so he can receive the most appropriate treatment. Best wishes to you and Boo!
