My lost cat is nearby but scared. How do I get him to come home?

You may try leaving tasty treats or very small amounts of food out on the steps/porch and lead them into the house (if you can leave the door open so he walks in. You can also sit quietly outside with something tasty to encourage him to come to you. Be patient and quiet. Most pets will get hungry enough that they will try to over come their fears. I hope he's ok! I'd say chances are still good at this point - I recommend keeping food out for him, and set his litterbox outside so he can recognize his familiar scent if he's become a bit disoriented. I hope he finds his way home!

It's possible he is being skittish, just enjoys being outdoors, or has been injured and so won't approach you. It may be a good idea to contact your local animal shelter for a humane trap (one that doesn't hurt them when they enter it). You can then place it in his usual hangout spot with some smelly food (heated chicken or canned food) to entice him to enter. Once he's safely captured, bringing him to your vet to make sure he's OK after being out so long is best, and from there you can get him settled back in indoors.

You can try putting out food and your cat's litter box. This will sometimes entice them to come home. I would also check with your neighbors to see if they have your cat or have seen him. Once you find him he may need to go to the vet to be checked out since he has been attacked and since he was gone from home for so long. Good luck.

You can place his favorite food outside to try to entice him to come home and search the surrounding area. Maybe a neighbor has seen an injured cat. If there is a local veterinarian, ask if anyone has brought an injured cat to the hospital. I hope he returns home soon.

I'm sorry to hear your can't find your kitty! This would be stressing me out too! If you are able to hear her but and she sounds like she might be in some trouble, I would be looking in some really small places that she might have been able to get in but not necessarily get out of. I would be looking in any place that she might have been able to get behind a wall or into a ceiling. Otherwise, if you think she might just be hiding somewhere that she doesn't want you to find her, starting leaving out some stuff that she would normally come running for on any other normal day. It is not unusual for a cat to come back home and they are good tracing back their way home. If he has a microchip you can check if he has been found at any of the local shelters.
