What food should I give my dehydrated kitten to help her recover?

Poor little one, I would recommend that he has fluids intravenously and medications through the drip until he starts to eat.. then you can start oral medications. Is she is coughing and sneezing a lot, it would be best to have her evaluated by a veterinarian, as she may need some medications to help her. But to answer your question regarding why can be fed-- you can offer her canned cat food, canned tuna, cooked chicken. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lola is adorable! If Lola is producing urine and acting normal I wouldn't be too concerned about her water intake. Some suggestions though are to feed her more of a canned food diet and gradually add water to the canned food to trick her in to taking more water in. Water fountains are a great option for cats who like fresh running water. Be sure that the Vet also dewormed her for round worms as the medications are different. ALL young animals usually have round worms. She should also have started her vaccinations and been tested for feline leukemia and FIV. I would increase her food volume as she does appear skinny. If she doesn't start to gain after being properly dewormed then I would consider a food change. I like he brands Hill's Science diet, Purina proplan, Royal Canine and Iams/Eukanuba. Be sure she is eating kitten formulas until 1 year of age. Good luck!

I'm sorry Lilly has been sick! Wet food has a higher moisture content than dry food, so she is getting some water in her by eating that. Also she is getting fluids, so she is getting water there too. If she wasn't getting fluids, I would be worried about her not drinking water, but in this case, I'm not. When the fluids run out, feed her wet food and add water to it.

I would highly recommend bringing her back to a vet. She most likely needs some fluid and nutritional support. This can be a virus that she is fighting off but to fight it off properly she needs nutrition. Her glucose can drop very low if she does not eat and cause seizures and even death. It sounds like you are doing an amazing job! If she is eating canned food well, you can also add some water to her canned food to help her take in more water. Her daily maintenance amount of water should be around 2 ounces or 1/4 cup at minimum. If it is really hot she may want more. Also make sure you have a fresh bowl of water out for her - they usually will drink want they want. Just keep in mind she is getting water from her canned food so she may not drinking as much as you think she should. I hope this helps!
