Why won't my new female cat breed with my male cat? What should I do?

If the female is in heat, she'll allow breeding. If she's just flopping over, it's possible she isn't currently in heat, and that's why it isn't working out. Cats tend to be seasonal breeders where they go into heat starting in the spring and will stay in heat until fall or until they become pregnant. I also highly recommend having both cats seen by a theriogenologist (veterinary reproductive specialist) to ensure both cats are healthy and OK to breed together. Working with this vet long term can also help you tract heat cycles, breeding health, and the health and care of mom and kittens.

Cats don't get married. If the female is not in heat, then she will likely not be receptive to the male attempting to breed her and will show the behavior she is showing. The estrous cycle in cats has 4 stages: proestrus, estrus, interestrus, and anestrus. It is only in the second stage that the female is receptive to the male. This stage, estrus, typically lasts 4-6 days (up to 10). If your female is still in the first stage (proestrus) or has already passed out of the second stage of the cycle into the third stage (interestrus) she will not r be receptive to the male. If mating is attempted to early or late in the cycle, the queen will refuse to mate and often aggressively reject the male. A queen should be at least 12 to 18 months of age before a mating is attempted. At this age, she is physically and emotionally mature enough to successfully rear kittens. Breeding your cat is not a decision to make lightly. Spaying prevents unwanted pregnancies and eliminates the problems of cystic ovaries, false pregnancies, uterine infection, and irregular heat cycles. Spaying also reduces the frequency of mammary tumors. Female cats do not need a litter of kittens to be happy psychologically. Reputable breeders have their queens and toms health screened and genetically tested for deleterious health problems. As a breeder, you become responsible for the health of the queen throughout her pregnancy and kittening. You should be prepared to find high quality homes for each of the kittens and to take them back at any time, even years later should the need arise. Only if you are prepared to make a lifetime commitment to teh queen and all of her kittens should you consider breeding your queen.

If you are certain that Bella went into heat either one of them could have fertility issues. You should have them both examined by your veterinarian to make sure that they are in good overall health, and your vet might suggest some other tests to run. Uterine abnormalities, semen abnormalities, infections or even poor nutrition can play a role. If you did not actually see them breed it is possible that Bolt has a penile or testicular problem causing low testosterone. It’s also possible that although he is likely sexually mature that he is just not interested yet.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! I would put the new cat in a room by herself. This allows them to sniff each other under the door and get used to each other that way. Purchase Feliway diffusers for the room the new cat is in and where Muezza sleeps the most. After a week either use a baby gate at the door or put the new cat in a carrier and let them see each other through that. Then let the new cat out, again after a week, only when you are home to watch them closely. Over the 3-4 weeks of slow introduction, hopefully it will go well. If the new female cat has never allowed a male to breed her I am a bit concerned she will not allow Muezza either. I do not think age makes a big difference in animals.
