My female cat is humping and leaking. Is she in heat or sick?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Pepper. I suspect that she is expressing her anal glands. These are small glands that sit on either side of the anus. They express each time the animal defecates to mark its scent. Occasionally the glands can express at other times depositing a yellow to gray liquid with a very foul fishy odor. I recommend having her see her veterinarian to ensure that the glands have not become infected nor need further expressing. Female cats do not have the ability to ejaculate. I see that Chubbs isn't neutered. This is going to be gross for you to read, but what you are seeing is likely sperm. He is masturbating when he is kneading and humping, and he's doing it to ejaculation. If you want him to stop ejaculating on you, the best thing to do is have him neutered as soon as possible. Keep in mind as well that an intact cat will start urinating around the house to make his territory, and that smell is very difficulty to get out. He may continue the masturbation behavior even when neutered because he's learned it feels good, but at least he won't ejaculate on you afterwards! I hope this helps!

Unfortunately this could be related to her heat cycle (hormones), a bladder infection or a behavioral issue. Since she can’t talk and tell you what’s going on, I recommend to have her checked by the veterinarian for a bladder infection. You may also discuss having her spayed which will eliminate that factor as well. Kittyanu is masturbating. It's a normal behavior, and he's learned that it feels good. If he kneads on you and starts this behavior, immediately put him down and ignore him to teach him you do not like that behavior and you will ignore him if he does it.

Unfortunately, it's hard to know if this is pathological or if she is in heat? I recommend to look up information on heat cycles and watch videos. Also record the behavior on video. If this is not a heat cycle or if you are unsure if it is, I recommend to have her examined and have the doctor watch the video. The vet will palpate her spine and may check her urine for infection to look for a medical cause. If she an older, or neutered cat, this behaviour could be a sign of hind legs or abdominal discomfort. In that case, you should take your Catu to your local vets for a check.

If Luna is performing this behavior of raising her bottom into the air for short periods of time, this can occur when a cat is in heat/estrus. If she is always walking with this position, it is not normal and could be a sign of a musculoskeletal or neurological problems and she should be examined by a veterinarian. Most veterinarians highly recommend spaying cats that aren't being used for a planned breeding program. Spaying decreases the chance of a dangerous uterine infection called pyometra which requires emergency surgery to remedy, as well as removes possibliity of uterine or ovarian cancer, and can improve behavior issues such as urinary marking/accidents outside the litterbox.
