What food for my new young cat, with others on urinary diet?

There is dry and wet of this diet. It is a prescription diet so you will have to get a prescription from your veterinarian. I hope this helps! Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I feed my cat Iams and they love it. You can feed Miu a urinary care food, just not a prescription one. Those are formulated specifically for cats with existing urinary problems.

Do not purchase an over the counter urinary diet, as they rarely work well. Unless your Lio has a specific allergy or sensitivity to wheat, corn, soy, or by-products, do not worry about their presence in the food. You should only be concerned about preventing urinary blockages. The normal daily amount to be fed to a 12 pound cat is 6.6 - 9.9 ounces daily. Take care.

If Taffy is predisposed to urinary problems / crystals, I would recommend considering a prescription diet such as Hills C/D or Royal Canin Urinary SO. I would also consider a cranberry supplement such as Paxon, which can be found online quite easily. Increasing water intake is also key. A recirculating water fountain and feeding a canned diet can help with this. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! if Lucky is on a prescription urinary diet for bladder stones, to prevent a urinary obstruction or to prevent urinary crystals it is not recommended to mix the food with anything else as it virtually makes it in effective. I would discuss other brands that may be more affordable with your Vet. Purina, Hills and Royal canin all make urinary foods. If you absolutely can not afford it then I would have him on an all canned food over the counter urinary diet and add extra water to the canned food. This will cause his urine to be more dilute. In fact, in households with one cat who has urinary problems and another who does not, I often recommend feeding the c/d to everyone anyway since I don't want the urinary cat to eat anyone else's food. (That being said, if urinary cat will stay our of Kaya's food, a kitten food IS more ideal for Kaya for the next couple months at least.) Best wishes to you and your kitties!

Do not combine foods, this causes GI upset. Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina Pro Plan, and Iams. I recommend these foods because they run their own feeding trials, meet AAFCO standards, and have veterinary nutritionists on staff. They are the only four brands to do this. I think an indoor cat formula would be best for Storm. As for water, get a pet water fountain. It provides a constant source of fresh water, and encourages cats to drink. I have one for my cats, and they love it. Don't change litter if he has one he likes. Cats are very picky about litter, and a change in litter can lead to them not using their box.
