My kitten keeps eating adult cat Rx food. Is that safe for her?

Kitten food tends to be higher in fats and calories so it can cause an adult cat to gain weight quickly. In general canned cat food is considered much healthier for cats so perhaps you can entice Sparkles away from the kitten food by offering him canned food instead. If they are not kittens then it’s not a good idea to feed them kitten food because this has more calories than they need and will cause them to become overweight and at high risk of developing diabetes and arthritis issues. You can try feeding them a similar adult food with the same protein in it as the kitten food. Check your local store and online store for more protein (beef, chicken, turkey, salmon, etc) options. Hill's (Science Diet) makes a prescription urinary s/d diet and a c/d diet. If it is SO, then it must a diet made by Royal Canin. Royal Canin S/O diet is OK to feed to all the cats as is Hill's c/d multicare diet. The s/d diet is probably OK if it is only going to be a short term diet.

Ideally the kitten should stay on a kitten diet for at least the first six months of their life as their nutritional requirements are different than adult cats. One method of successfully feeding them different diets is to "meal feed" the kitten, meaning the kitten gets fed at specific times versus leaving the food out all the time as well as feeding the kitten in a closed off area like a bathroom or closet.

Because Bleu is an adult cat, she does not need a kitten food. Kitten food should only be fed to cats less than a year of age. This is because kitten food has more calories, protein, and calcium to support their rapid growth, but as adults, they won't grow anymore and thus do not need as many calories as a kitten. I would get her an adult cat food. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
