The best way to judge age in a young kitten is through the eruption of permanent teeth. By the time the average kitten reaches 6- 7 months of age, all 30 adult teeth will have erupted. It is difficult to know his exact weight at maturity but if he is 10 pounds and only 6 months old then he is going to be a fairly large cat.

The best way to determine a kitten's age is by their teeth or their weight. In a cat this young, I like to use weight to approximate age. Usually in the first three to four months of their life, you can estimate a healthy cat should weigh one pound per month of life. Kittens will begin getting some their adult teeth as early as 11 or 12 weeks of life, and usually have all of their adult teeth by five to seven months of age.
