Is disinfecting cat toys with 70% ethanol safe for my cat's health?

In fact, we use rubbing alcohol directly on cats when we are drawing blood or something to help clean an incision site or minor wound. Ethylene oxide, while harmful in its free form, should not have any residue on these gauze if it was properly aerated and treated post sterilization procedures. It’s main purpose is to kill microbes on the gauze pads and therefore sterilize it. It should pose very minimal risk to your pet if used in the mouth. NO!! Methylated spirits are toxic to their skin and often times will "burn" them. Also, cats do not like weird smelling things on them and will often lick off anything you apply - in this case, the spirits would be toxic and could cause oral ulcerations. I'm not sure what exactly you want to disinfect on your cat but it is much better to use dilute betadine/iodine solution or chlorhexidine solution. I hope this answers your question. Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You can wash your pets toys in any detergent you want to. There are no stipulations to detergent. Especially if mold was on them. You definitely want to add some bleach to the wash to ensure it kills the mold. Follow the instructions on your machine to help prevent any kind of discoloration of the toys. If your pet has a known or suspected allergy, then I would use a hypoallergenic detergent or a baby detergent such as Deft detergent. Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. Ringworm can be very difficult to erradicate. Using the sulfur based shampoo is fine but you will not see an immediate effect. It takes weeks and sometimes months to get rid of ringworm. Do not use ethanol. I have never heard of using that and it would likely burn her skin. Hello. You can never go wrong with dilute bleach. One (1) part bleach to nine (9) parts water is effective for just about all viruses & bacteria. Wipe the entire cage down with the dilute bleach, let things sit for about 5-10 minutes & then just wipe dry. No need to rinse. Either replace the litter box with a new one or soak it in the bleach water along with all bowls & dishes. The dishes should be rinsed with water before drying. Administering piriton syrup containing ethanol to your cat would not be recommended. Cats are sensitive to ethanol toxicity so any products containing it should be avoided. It is likely the taste of the liquid would make it very difficult to administer to your cat, probably causing drooling and/or foaming at the mouth. Stick with the tablets. They are easier and safer to administer.
