Is ethylene oxide sterilized gauze toxic for my cat's teeth cleaning?

Rubbing very hard could increase irritation to the gums, but I think it would be somewhat difficult to do this - Moo would probably get upset and not allow it! If you are seeing blood on the gauze this could simply be a sign of gingivitis that should hopefully improve with routine dental care. If you are unsure whether or not you are finger brushing the right way you could potentially schedule an appointment with your veterinarian to have a technician/nurse show you the proper way to use the gauze.

There have been some studies evaluating its toxic effects, mainly when used as a gel substrate in eye medications in animals and this is what I was able to find regarding this: Use: Carbomer-based gels significantly extend contact of solutes or suspended solids with the corneal surface Overdosage: Doses up to 1 g/kg PO in dogs x 6 mo resulted in no observable clinical effects and no pathological lesion No toxic effects expected; should signs develop, treatment should be symptomatic Systemic toxicosis not expected due to poor bioavailability So therefore, there are no concerns here when this compound is ingested in animals (dogs or cats). This is typically the case when dealing with over the counter supplements or dental products in general. If toxicity concerns were there, a product would likely require a prescirption and would not be available as an over the counter. When undergoing a procedure that requires an anesthesia, especially if the temperature is getting low, veterinarians has special devices to keep patients warm and cosy during the whole procedure. The temperature will be checked regularly and when Marie will go home she will be wide awake with a normal body temperature. I agree having her teeth cleaned it’s a good idea especially if she has tartar buildup.I would start by having your veterinarian run some general bloodwork to make sure her organ function is good and if everything looks good and her heart is healthy and anesthesia is very safe. Having bad dental health can be more detrimental in the long run and getting this taken care of would be a great idea. Also make sure that wherever you have her teeth cleaned has full monitoring devices and that they do intravenous fluids during the procedure. This is a standard safety measure and you want to go somewhere that has that available. Hope that is helpful and have a wonderful day.

You can ask your Vet to prescribe a sedative to you to give to transport him to the Vet. Anesthesia is always risky but complications are rare and we do everything possible to eliminate risk. Monitoring is done during anesthesia and blood-work should be done prior I wish Milo the best
