My diabetic cat pulls fur. Will his hair grow back after treatment?

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites or it could be stress related. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). If allergy is not identified this behaviour could be purely stress related. Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair the skin lesions (steroids and antibiotics). Poor Hershey. The increased urination could be due to her diabetes not being under control, but the increased grooming could be due to a medical illness like hyperthyroidism. I'd have her seen by her vet again for these issues.

Wow - Bits certainly has groomed all of the fur off of her abdomen! The two most common causes of overgrooming in cats include allergies and anxiety/stress. I'm glad to hear that all of her diagnostic tests have been normal, but unfortunately, neither of these issues show up with blood tests or imaging. I would ask your vet if they feel that she would be a good candidate for a medication to help manage some allergies in cats (Atopica) or anti-anxiety medication (Prozac is the most common option). The only way to get her fur to grow back is to treat the underlying issue, although it will still take some time and patience. I hope that everything goes well for Bits!

Unless Lucy has underlying skin diseases or infection, her hair should grow back normally. If she is itchy or if the skin becomes red, she should go to her vet for testing. Otherwise, continue monitoring for hair regrowth! :-)

Diabetic cats often have a sort of greasy fur quality with dandruff. Once he is well regulated on insulin this should improve. I do not think you have to worry. And I wish you lots of success. The injections are not so hard to give (I give my kitty his injection while he eats...he does not even notice it)

Yes, it will grow back again. All the scratches seem to be superficial so disinfection will be possibly enough and can be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. It is hard to say exactly what the issue is with Miss Kitty sight unseen, but I can offer you a possibility. If her scratching has subsided after Frontline Plus administration, then it is possible she did have a flea allergy. As long as you continue to use the flea preventative every month to help keep fleas from coming back onto Miss Kitty, her fur should grow back in a couple weeks. :) I hope this has helped and best wishes to you and Miss Kitty!
