Could too much Zymox ear drops cause my cat's pupils to dilate?

It is really hard to tell by the pictures but I think one of her pupils is small and the other is dilated. This is called horners syndrome. Sometimes we are unaware of the cause but it can be linked to ear infections. I would recommend taking Lily to the vet to make sure she does not have an inner ear infection. It is possible she has an ear infection (inner or outer) with ear mites. Horners syndrome usually resolves with time but a ear infection would need antibiotics.

Horner's syndrome can result due to an ear cleaning if there was damage done to the ear during the cleaning, but it can also result from an ear infection, blunt force trauma, and disease of the eye among other things. If Munna had Horner's syndrome, you would see other symptoms such as drooping of the eyelid of the affected side, the third eyelid would be raised and appear red, and the affected eye may appear sunken. Moon should see a vet for this immediately. It's very serious when one eye suddenly is dilated while the other is not. The vet can diagnose what is causing this to occur, and can treat him for it. Please take him into a vet now.

This is a generic version of a common ear medication called Zymox, which is safe for dogs and cats. However, you can have side effects with any medication, so its best to follow up with your vet if you have any concerns after using this. It will help with itching, inflammation, and pain but will not treat ear mites. I would advise letting your vet take a look at Sweetie after getting a thorough history. They can then advise some diagnostic tests to evaluate what is going on with the ears. They can do an ear smear where they take some of the ear discharge, put it on a slide, and examine it under the microscope. Ear mites, bacteria, yeast, and foreign bodies can all cause ear infections/ear problems. Ear mites are contagious to all pets in the household so it's important to diagnose and treat that appropriately. There are topical flea/tick products that also treat ear mites and there are topical ear medicines which can address a variety of ear problems. Good luck with Sweetie.

There is anisocoria (the two pupils are unequal in size) and possibly ptosis of the upper eyelid (the eyelid cannot open normally) on the left side (where the pupil is bigger). There are many causes that can provoke this presentation: -Corneal injury such as an ulcer. -Disease or injury to the brain or to the nerves running to the affected eye, such as Horner’s syndrome. -Glaucoma, a disease in which there is increased pressure within the eye (the pupil in the affected eye will be dilated). -Uveitis, or inflammation of the interior of the eye (the pupil in the affected eye will usually be constricted). -Retinal disease. -Scar tissue formation between the iris and the lens (called posterior synechia), a condition that may develop following uveitis. -Iris atrophy (a decrease in the amount of tissue within the iris) usually a degenerative change associated with aging. -Congenital defect of the iris, in which the iris tissue does not develop properly. -Cancer within the affected eye. -Spastic pupil syndrome - a syndrome that may be associated with feline leukemia virus infection. -Other infectious diseases such as feline immunodeficiency virus or toxoplasmosis. Unfortunately is difficult to be more specific than that and a clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed. I do not know what brands of products you are using but it seems like she is having a toxicity reaction possibly from licking products off her body but could also be from the ivermectin injections. The dilated pupils are very concerning and one the first signs of a toxicity as well as hyper salivation. Full body mites at her age is not a normal thing we see here in the US so I am not sure the diagnosis is correct. I suggest you take her back to your vet or get a second opinion from another vet. I cannot really give you much direction as to where to go from here without knowing if she is having a toxicity reaction or not and why. There is not a blanket treatment for "mites" - it depends what type of mites they are (scabies vs demodex). Lime sulphur dips are not really used for this problem; it is really only used anymore in cases of full body ringworm.

Hello. I do not think putting the medication in the eye months ago is causing this situation with Lily now, but you definitely need to have this checked out by your veterinarian. A color change can indicate the presence of uveitis, a general term used to describe inflammation in certain parts of the eye. There are several possible causes or underlying diseases that can cause this, but only a thorough ophthalmologic exam will diagnose the problem. I hope you can have her seen soon.
