My cat has yellow, soupy diarrhea for 4 days. Does he need a vet?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It sounds like an intestinal parasite. In a close area it is easy for parasites to spread, especially if the cats use the same area to go potty. I would recommend taking 1-2 cats to the vet and bring fresh poop samples so they can look with a microscope. If none are found, they may need to send the sample to a lab to look for a more rare parasite called tritrichomonas. This is usually found in a larger cat group and can come and go but it isn’t as common. Once a diagnosis is made, they may be able to get medications to get the cats treated. I would also clean up stool as often as you can to decrease spreading and clean littler boxes with soap and water daily. Good luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Because this has been going on for so long, I recommend taking Nuru to a vet for a physical exam and a stool sample test. He could have microscopic parasites that need to be treated. Not all dewormer medications treat all intestinal parasites so it helps to know what he has. If that test is negative, I would recommend an infectious disease test (leukemia/FIV). If all that is normal, the vet can discuss his nutrition. Good luck and kisses to Nuru!

Specifically diarrhea that is yellowish in color is often indicative of coccidia which is a parasite of the small intestine. It is possible it's something else like other parasites, dietary problem, etc. I don't know of any over the counter medicines for coccidia so you will have to consult with your vet and have Luna evaluated before they can prescribe medicine for her. They will be able to evaluate her and run a fecal exam then decide on the treatment. I hope see gets well soon.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Khilisha. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian. He will need to have fecal testing performed. I worry that he has infection if his littermates are affected as well. He will need a medication to help stop the diarrhea. An antibiotic or dewormer will likely be prescribed. If there is not an infection, then his diet could be to blame. I hope this information helps!

Diarrhea is a common problem with cats and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). Usually it's not serious, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If she has any of the following, then she should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help her get through this by feeding bland food (i.e. boneless cooked chicken). Feed small portions (1/4 cup or less) at meal time. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. It sounds like Molly may be experiencing some diarrhea. This can be caused by intestinal parasites, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a GI illness. When a cat has been having loose stools for more than 24 hours, it's time to see a vet. I would take Molly into a vet today, and bring along a sample of her stool for the vet to examine. The vet can diagnose what is causing this loose stool and can treat her for it.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. As long as Lola isn't having watery diarrhea, and is still eating and drinking, she shouldn't become too dehydrated. It sounds however like she might have something else going on, and dragging her bum on the ground suggests that she is itchy. I would start by deworming her, as she likely has worms. Also, make sure she is on a high-quality kitten food. If she stops eating, or becomes weak and not moving, then please have her seen by a vet right away. Best of luck with Lola.
